What the title should say is ..."Windows 7 (new for me) is not saving pictures from camera TO my pictures file."

Thank you for any and all advice.

I went to upload photos from my website but could not find them!

What I have done so far:

1. Set autoplay to default

2. Unplugged all ports and replugged

3. Typed jpg in search and found them but they are not accessible when I try to upload them to my website.

4. Looked in temp files (not there)

5. Tried another "test" photo and tried one more time to upload it from snapfish and photobucket and still can't find them.

Can I tell windows where to save my photos?

Could this be from a corrupt file?

I don't know what else to try.

edited the title for you

I think the best tool finding any file is Total Commander. You can download it HERE

  1. Go to the directory in which you want to start your search
  2. From the "Commands" menu, choose "Search"
  3. Enter a file mask for the search. Example: *.jpg will search for all jpg images
  4. You may search for text contained in the files, using the "Find text" option
  5. On the second search page, you can search by size, date, and attributes
  6. The function also contains a duplicate file finder
  7. Start the search with the "Start search" button
  8. You can either go to a search result with the "Go to" button, or work with the whole file list by clicking "Feed to listbox"

You have to enter

*.jpg

If Your images are jpg. But if you replace jpg  with doc it will look for word documents.

So You have downloaded the images from the net? Then You can try look at: c/user/downloads  firefox is downloading there by default. You can change it to "Ask where to save".

I think Chrome saves at the same location.

I can find the photos by searching ...jpg.... However, that does not help me when trying to upload it from my website. From any website I cannot locate the file in order upload it. It is not in any folder in the Library. The photos I am speaking of are taken with my camera.

Note - Photos saved from the internet are found easily. Photos uploaded from camera are not.

I never had this problem with Windows XP - EVER.

Total Commander does not look safe to use. I am looking to solve the problem without downloading anything.

What is Your camera model? Do you using any third party software when uploading from camera or software which came with the camera? Total commander is the best file manager ever. Its looks a bit outdated, but I am using it over 15 years, and will not change.

- If you are using software which came with the camera, it can save the files into its own location, what You can change if You want. Probably You will find this option in settings .

I have copied images once fom an olympus software, it was quite tricky to find the location where its saved the images.

- If you are using win 7 to import, then it should be at START --> COMPUTER --> LIBRARIES --> PICTURES

- Maybe your images is saved in hidden folders, to unhide here is a tutorial:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files#show-hidden-files=windows-7

but its not too safe to keep it like that, becouse system files will unhide too. And do not ask why it should save them there, its just an idea. Its less likely than the reasons above.

What is the make and model of the camera? When you click the Windows globe and select Devices and Printers is your Camera shown when attached?

You said you did a search and found them. Right click one of the jpg files found and select Open in Folder. What is the location shown in the address bar?

Edit: Sorry som3body, I missed you post.

I use a Nikon with  no software on computer for editing. Yes, my camera is showing in Devices.

I have tried three different softwares this week but I cannot "save as" to upload from the photos captured by software -- so they were of no use to me.

Also when I right click on jpg file and ask its location it tells me Local Disk (c:)

Som3body - If I changed the jpg file to doc. would I be able to upload it from a website?

On my Nikon I simply remove the SD card and place it in the computer card reader to transfer the images.

My Nikons also come with software which can be used...but it's not necessary to use that software...the Camera Wizard does the job.

This laptop does not have a port for memory card only a disk port.

I looked for camera wizard in search box and it does not have one - says to install. Is there a safe site to download it or can I purchase a disk?

Note - Camera is second hand.(no software) Also bartered for computer so I am not the first "owner".

Do you have a model number of the Nikon. Nikon has the software available on their website but the software to download depends on how old it is.

You can use one of these USB SD card readers on a USB port.

Nikon Coolpix p510

Will the software help windows save my photos in the right file?

Thanks for the info on the SD card reader - I snapped one up.

I don't use the transfer software but it should.

Here is your support page.

Your Manual

According to the Manual it includes the ViewNX2 software. You can get it here. Starting at page 93 shows how to use the software to transfer images.
