Hi Guys,

I'm having this exact problem with my HP Pavilion which was purchased with Win7 then subsequently upgraded to Win8.1 after partitioning. I have been unable to update since. I have attempted so many fixes from Microsofts Forum so far with no satisfaction.

I've followed this thread and tried this method but have hit a snag at number 8 also....When I hit "Merge" I get the message : "Cannot import C:\ xxx\xxx\desktop\Msirepair.reg: The specified file is not a registry script.

You can only import binary registry files from within the registry editor."

Where am I going wrong if anyone knows? Please!!!!

Are you receiving an error message when the update fails?

If you are, please post the exact message.

Please list the Microsoft fixes you have tried so we don't ask you to do something which you have already tried.
