Hi everyone, I have Win 8.1 and just recently an icon showed up on my taskbar notification area? Is it wise to reserve an upgrade for it or just be patient and wait? Just a lil' concerned that MS will start charging us...

Thanks for any input,

Kiki G.

Hey Kiki :)

Microsoft already said at the beginning that Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users will have the chance to upgrade to Windows 10 for free during the first year of the release, so it's safe to reserve your copy right now. I wouldn't worry about it. Also, you might want to bring the discussion in this thread instead:

No problem Kiki :) I'll be reserving my copy this evening as well (I installed the update this morning, I had to leave for work however).

Hi Aura, quick question- I have 2 desktops running Win 7 Pro and a laptop with Win 8.1- My laptop is the only computer with that Win 10 upgrade icon in the tray area- Non are present on my desktops? Is there a reason for that? Thanks Aura!

Its pushed via the update KB3035583. So if you dont have it installed on your other computers, its normal that you dont have that notification yet. Look at them and see if the update can be installed. If it can, install it then restart your computer and it should appear a few minutes after.

Do you have a folder called GWX in C:\Windows\System32? If so, if you click on gwx.exe, what happens?

Find the gwx.exe executable in it (it'll have the Windows 10 logo) and execute it.
