Lenovo Y50 laptop with

Windows 8.1 Single Language 64-bit
Intel Core i3/i5/i7 4xxx @ 2.20GHz
Haswell 22nm Technology
8.00GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-11-28)
LENOVO Lenovo Y50-70 (U3E1) Motherboard
Generic PnP Monitor (1920x1080@60Hz)

Intel HD Graphics 4600
2047MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 860M
931GB Western Digital WDC WD10S21X-24R1BT0-SSHD-8GB (SATA)

Laptop has been making squeaky noises (from HDD area) going into a soft-frozen state for seconds to several minutes before programs start responding again. Has been happening all day.

"Did you try turning it off and on again?"

Yes. Reboots don't help, one time there was even an error from BIOS saying "EFI Network 0 for IPv6 (F8-A9-63-3C-AB-4F) boot failed". I assume it tried to boot from the internet because the HDD failed? I don't know.

What's going on? Anything I can do to fix this or do I need a new HDD? I have full warranty till like November of this year.

What are the current boot options in the BIOS?

Hi there Supreme Edgeboy Max,
Sorry to hear about your trouble. First of all I think you have the symptoms of a failing HDD (in your case SSHD), therefore I advice to make a backup of your important data before trying anything else. The "EFI Network 0 for IPv6 (F8-A9-63-3C-AB-4F) boot failed" error may be caused by wrong boot Boot Order or the HDD technically cannot be detected by your computer cuasing it to boot to other media. If, however, your laptop is new, I quess you haven't changed any of those settings.  I recommend you check the health of your drive with WD Data Lifeguard software: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=810&sid=3&lang=eng

Run both quick and extended tests and post the results here. Depending on the results I will give you advice on what to do, but since your laptop still has full warranty it's probably best to take it to the specialists.

Hope this was helpful, Citizen_WD

Incorrect boot order...can be a symptom of a failing CMOS battery, a less-than-$5 item on a desktop.
