Email hacked, high network traffic now, how do I solve this?

Last week, I got bouncebacks for emails I never sent. They indicated that they were going out on my roadrunner's smtp mailbox and they were spam for enhancement drugs. No recipient has replied back complaining, and the list of recipients is not mine, nor did it originate on my network.

I called roadrunner, and I got my pop3 address changed. Unfortunately they limit passwords to letters & numbers only, which these days, would be secure for what? an hour? against a brute force attempt to discover the password? Nonetheless, smtp access requires a pop3 password, and I figured I'd stop these spammers right in their tracks

In any event, I'm not seeing any more bouncebacks. Further more, I've not seen any of these in the sent box of my email client, eudora 7.1.0.9

 

And I don't believe I have any email clients set up on my home network, but there are 3 other computers logged in full time, and 3 or 4 laptops or netbooks that sign in from time to time.

 

The problem is this.  I'm getting lousy network speeds. So bad that IE won't even load some webpages at all. I have a roadrunner modem, and two routers (One is for Vonage). Nothing has changed in the configuration for years.

by the way, my IP address currently is 107.147.66.xxx

So I'm stymied wondering if there's anything in this email bounce that would indicate an infection on my part, or simply my password was guessed/stolen and changing it, as I did, solved it.

Then it begs the question, why is my network so bloody slow?

  • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

  • It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.

How to get logs:
(Export log to save as txt)


  • After the restart once you are back at your desktop, open MBAM once more.
  • Click on the History tab > Application Logs.
  • Double click on the Scan Log which shows the Date and time of the scan just performed.
  • Click 'Export'.
  • Click 'Text file (*.txt)'
  • In the Save File dialog box which appears, click on Desktop.
  • In the File name: box type a name for your scan log.
  • A message box named 'File Saved' should appear stating "Your file has been successfully exported".
  • Click Ok
  • Attach that saved log to your next reply.

  • After the restart once you are back at your desktop, open MBAM once more.

There are 2 different versions. If one of them won't run then download and try to run the other one.
You only need to get one of these to run, not all of them. You may get warnings from your antivirus about this tool, ignore them or shutdown your antivirus.

  • Double-click on the Rkill desktop icon to run the tool.

  • A black DOS box will briefly flash and then disappear. This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • If not, delete the file, then download and use the one provided in Link 2.
  • Do not reboot until instructed.
  • If the tool does not run from any of the links provided, please let me know.


If normal mode still doesn't work, run the tool from safe mode.

When the scan is done Notepad will open with rKill log.

Avast Free flagged one of the tools from bleeping computer. I disabled Avast for 10 minutes and got the download. I ran Malware Bytes (see below) and during the boot, Avast did a boot time scan that came up clean.

I upload my radio show each week. it takes about 20 minutes, but with this problem it takes an hour. In other words... I still have the performance issues.

You're infected with ZeroAccess rootkit.

It'll require elevated help.

 

Please follow the instructions in THIS GUIDE starting at Step 6. If you cannot complete a step, skip it and continue.

Once the proper logs are created, then make a NEW TOPIC and post it HERE. Please include a description of your computer issues, what you have done to resolve them, and a link to this topic.

If you can produce at least some of the logs, then please create the new topic and explain what happens when you try to create the log(s) that you couldn't get. If you cannot produce any of the logs, then still post the topic and explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happens when you try to create the logs.

It would be helpful if you post a note here once you have completed the steps in the guide and have started your topic in malware removal. Good luck and be patient.

Now that you have posted in Malware Removal Logs

 

Please refrain from asking for further help from other members or staff until the Malware Removal Team has checked your posted log. The Malware Removal Team work very hard to investigate a unique solution to your problem and you will receive individual expert assistance. This takes time and effort so we ask you to please be patient while waiting for assistance and NOT to make further changes to your computer (install/uninstall programs, use special fix tools, delete files, edit the registry, etc) unless advised by a Malware Removal Team member. Any modifications you make on your own can result in system changes which may not show it the log you already posted. Further, following advice outside of that post may cause confusion for the team member assisting you and could complicate the malware removal process which would extend the time it takes to clean your computer.


 

The Malware Removal Team should be the only members that you take advice from, until they have verified your log as clean. If you followed any other advice already, please ensure you inform the Malware Removal Team Team Helper when they respond to assist you with your log. This will help them know what has been done and they probably will ask for an updated log.


 

Please be patient. It may take a while to get a response because the Malware Removal Team members are very busy working logs posted before yours. They are volunteers who will help you out as soon as possible. Once you have made your post and are waiting, please DO NOT "bump" your post or make another reply until it has been responded to by a member of the Malware Removal Team.
