Basically most people have trolled and/or been trolled. Share you're experience of the best prank you've ever pulled or the best way you've been trolled.

From where I come, it always handed up badly if someone tried to troll me. That's all.

Yes I have been trolled once or twice in the past.

I used to love dealing with trolls in Yahoo chat, Pop Pop Pop Pop ( Yahoo chatters will know what I mean ).

I can't say for sure if I've been trolled, or conversely have trolled others. Trolling, like art, is in the eye of the beholder. One thing I never do is to make any kind of personal insult.
To err is Human. To blame it on someone else is even more Human.

. . . . Share . . . . the best prank you've ever pulled . . . .

Hmmm . . .

This is going way back.  Some of you may have never used Word Perfect 5.0!

When GUI word processors began to appear, we tried several before we abandoned WP5.0.

But we had one die hard, who refused to give in.  He insisted that GUI was "just a fad" that would bog down CPU's and never take hold.

Everything he did was in DOS 3.3 and nothing more.

It took a little bit of time and effort to get it set, but it was worth the look on his face . . . .

We put a hidden macro in his WP that waited for a specific set of key strokes, then here's what happened:

The screen went blank for a few seconds, then came back on.

The screen appeared to freeze!  The keyboard was locked!

A giant (relative to the 14" CRT display) rat poked it's head around the edge of the monitor, then started to eat the screen!  Taking big bytes (sic) out of the display!

All he could do was watch the rat gnaw down on his document.

When it finished eating the screen, he was left with the rat sitting in the middle of a black background, picking his teeth.

The rat smiled, belched, and then the screen collapsed, the same way an old vacuum valve television would, to a little white dot in the centre of the CRT.

(This was the last thing that happened before the HDD was parked.  You remember having to park your HDD before you shut down your PC, right?)

Our Sysop, (a real BOFH,) came by and told him he broke the software, and was now forced to go WFWG3.11 and a GUI system.

Never heard a squeak about GUI from him after that!  He even kept quite when we went to OS2 a year later!

Cheers!

Naught.

PS:  In those day's we didn't call it GUI, we called it WYSIWYG, (WissyWig.)  What you see is what you get!

I am on Alexstrasza's side in this one. Practical jokes are one thing, and that sounds a brilliant one from McNoone, but trolling is about aggression and rudeness for which there is never a need. Even if you want to call some one an idiot there are polite ways to do it. I've done it on open forums and never been accused of trolling.

As my mother said - politeness costs nothing !

The dictionary meaning of "trolling" means "to purposefully elicit responses from someone (preferably negative)".

I am not an attention seeker, and I don't like those who do that.

I agree with you there Chris ... I didn't mean trolling like "I hate you LOL I TROLL UUUUU!" I meant something like Naughty Mcnoones prank. It's my fault i guess that i didn't do my research and mistook the word "troll" for the word "prank". Also a reply to alex's comment

I agree with you and(hate is such a strong word so i'm not going to use it) but dislike people who go out of the way to be attention seekers...
