Hiya can anybody help me a friend has got this computer its quite a newish one 2.6ghz etc. he tried a diffrent processor in it and when he put the original cpu back in all he gets is a black screen hes cleared the cmos and that did not work. We think that the motherboard has blown could this be the case?

It's always possible the motherboard has failed but there are other possibilities.

This "different processor" he tried in it -- did it work?

Are you sure the heatsink/fan was reinstalled correctly? Cleaned off and then applied fresh thermal compound?

Do you get any beeps when you power on? Do the fans and hard drive spin?

All peripherals power on -- known good CPU -- no beeps on power up -- sounds like the motherboard has gone south. You might want to try another power supply just to make sure -- or try this PSU on another mobo, whichever is easier. But it sure sounds like your diagnosis is correct. My condolences.
