Hiya can anybody help me a friend has got this computer its quite a newish one 2.6ghz etc. he tried a diffrent processor in it and when he put the original cpu back in all he gets is a black screen hes cleared the cmos and that did not work. We think that the motherboard has blown could this be the case?
yep the cpu didnt work either its all in place corrrectly and theres new thermal compund on there now but that has not done any good eveything powers up fans, lights, hdd , dvd drives but it wont boot its just a black screen theres no post or anything.
All peripherals power on -- known good CPU -- no beeps on power up -- sounds like the motherboard has gone south. You might want to try another power supply just to make sure -- or try this PSU on another mobo, whichever is easier. But it sure sounds like your diagnosis is correct. My condolences.
