I just bought an HP Stream with windows 8, attempting to use windows transfer from my old Toshiba using an external hard drive and it's not working. I uncheck the settings option so they don't transfer and am being told there is not enough space on the new computer. I have some knowledge of computers but  am stumped. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

How large is your transfer file (something.mig on your external drive)?

As far as I know the HP Stream products only have a 32GB SSD internally, so you really don't have much space to work with.

You might want to consider putting your files on OneDrive. HP currently includes a one year 1TB subscription with your Stream.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
