I'm infected with TrustCleaner  . Norton can't remove it, Windows Defender can't remove it... Tried to remove it with your recommendations on http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/54501/how-to-remove-trust-cleaner-removal-instructions/ but it doesn't work. It keeps returning and installing itself again. Can't remove TrustIn Contextual from my Software list. Tried to start in save mode and did a full scan with norton antivirus 2006 and Hitman Pro (adaware, spybot search and destroy etc) They did find spyware and removed it but I still have problems with the fake alerts (from Norton in my case) and the TrustCleaner installs itself again. Did the hole procedure described on your Preparation Guide for use before posting a hijacklog. TrendMicro isn't working. I tried Bitdefender too, he was unable to remove
C:\ Windows\System32\tload.ocx and C:\Windows\System32\se_spoof.dll. I tried to remove them myself but it seems impossible. It is in use or not writeable or something like that. I even removed TrustCleaner out of my register but it keeps returning. Can you please help me?
I created a logfile.
My pc is a Pentium 4, 1,7 Ghz, 1,3 Mb, Windows Xp home edition, Norton Anti Virus 2006, Norton Internet Security 2003, windows defender.
Hope you can help me!
Thanx!

Hi Suuzzz and Welcome to the Bleeping Computer!

Open HijackThis-> Click "Do a System Scan Only" and put a check by these but DO NOT hit the Fix Checked button yet

O2 - BHO: SpoofBHO Class - {07A78AEA-4A54-4967-9A60-4B68592D30C7} - C:\WINDOWS\se_spoof.dll

O2 - BHO: WeeklyExecuter Class - {590FFB84-6A29-4797-9C0E-B15DF2C4CDCB} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tload.ocx

O2 - BHO: ContextualAds Class - {FE6C16C4-16AD-47B6-B250-26AD1829E49A} - C:\Program Files\TrustIn Contextual\trustincontext.dll (file missing)

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Trust Cleaner] "C:\Program Files\Trust Cleaner\Trust Cleaner.exe"

Now Make sure ALL WINDOWS and BROWSERS are CLOSED and hit the Fix Checked Button

Please download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
  • Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

    C:\WINDOWS\se_spoof.dll
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\tload.ocx

  • Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.
  • Select Delete on Reboot and Unregister .dll before Deleting
  • then Click on the All Files button.
  • Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).
If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

If you receive a message such as: "Component 'MsComCtl.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid." when trying to run Killbox, click here to download and run missingfilesetup.exe. Then try Killbox again.

Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply, along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Hello Cretemonster, thank you for your welcome!

I did what you described and I hope it worked!
Did get the PendingFileRenameOperations prompt! I had to do Killbox twice because I could just copy/type one file at a time. I tried to copy both at the same time but only the first file appeared in the textbox so I did it twice..hope that was oke. At restart of my computer nothing happened or appeared.

Here the results of SmitFraud:

No more TrustCleaner! No Spoof! in this log! Jippeeee  Only there is still TrustIn Contextual on my Softwarelist.... Don't know how to remove that...can't remove it by just clicking the remove button..

But anyway, thank you very much. I'm considering a donation but how does that work? I assume it is somewhere on this website so I will find it

Greetzzz from Suuzzz :flowers:

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.

You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.

The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".

The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Warning : running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Download ComboFix to your desktop.
Doubleclick combo.exe
Follow the prompts.
Don't click on the window while the fix is running, because that will cause your system to hang.

When finished and after reboot, it should open a log, combofix.txt.

Post the contents of combofix.txt into the next reply along with C:\rapport.txt

Still on my softwarelist  (made a screenshot so you can see)
but no more fake alerts or change of homepage or unwanted search-daily list, so I'll guess it is gone, or at least I hope so...

Dont think I want to trust the uninstaller for this program,so go to Safe Mode.

Open HijackThis and either click Open the Misc Tools Section or

Click on the Config button and Click on the Misc Tools button

Click on the Open Uninstall Manager button.

Scroll to the Trust Cleaner entry and highlight--> then click the delete this entry tab.

Now delete the folder or folders

C:\Program Files\Trust

May also be a Trust Cleaner folder as well.

Restart Normal and Please run the F-Secure Online Scanner

Note: This Scanner is for Internet Explorer Only!
  • Follow the Instruction on the F-Secure page for proper installation.
  • Accept the License Agreement.
  • Once the ActiveX installs,Click Full System Scan
  • Once the download completes, the scan will begin automatically.
  • The scan will take some time to finish,so please be patient.
  • When the scan completes, click the Automatic cleaning (recommended) button.
  • Click the Show Report button and Copy&Paste the entire report in your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.

Removed TrustIn Contextual out of my softwarelist with hijackThis in save mode (and it's gone! ), also the Trust Folder which should be for my webcam which is from Trust. But after removing the folder the webcam is still working... :flowers:
Think it's gone now!
Thank you very very much

Scan process completed.

Spywareblaster installed (is also included in Hitman Pro (see www.hitmanpro.nl) but did install it anyway because i couldn't find it in my programfiles.)
Hostfile installed. What is that doing?

System Restore removed, made a new one after restart.

Don't have fake alerts, no change of homepage. Hope it stays that way...i will do on-line scans every day for a period to see if all bad things really are gone... So I'll let you know by next week how things are

Greetzzz from Suuzzz

(edit: 17.13 PM (ET)) Did Hitman Pro Scan after all this and went shopping. When I returned this is what Spyware Doctor found....(the other one's didn't find anything) Don't know if it has anything to do with the TrustCleaner but just wanted to let you know...

Updating Java and Clearing Cache
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
  • It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
  • If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  • After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
  • Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
  • There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 CheckedDownloaded Applets
    Downloaded Applications
    Other Files
  • Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
  • Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.
It is suggested that you go and change all your passwords since some of these may have been compromised during the infection.

Read through those 3 little black links in my signature to get some extra ideas about how to avoid this in the future.

Please remember to check your AntiVirus and any Spyware Apps for updates atleast twice a week

Make sure you keep your Windows Operating System up to date by visiting Windows Updates regularly to download and install any critical updates and service packs.

If you ever need us again, you know how to find us!
