I'm having serious crash issues with my computer. I'm stuck on trying to figure out what component of my system needs to be addressed. I'm leaning towards it being either the graphics cards, or the hard disk. More favorably the hard disk due to past issue I will outline below.

I will first describe what preceded and likely caused the current state of problems for me.

The power went out at my house a few days ago.

After said power loss, an alarm went off on my computer, which was on at the time (I don't know what the alarm was signaling, or even how it was running with the power out). Once power returned, I turned the machine on and my desktop was blank, and multiple system errors were popping up (errors in the event log note that multiple services were failing to start). I turned the computer off and left it alone for a bit, and came back, and when I turned it on a second time everything seemed back to normal.

However, once I started playing my online video game (Starcraft II) I've started running into freezes where the screen seems to loose signal. Sound for the game freezes, but the computer remains on. I thought it might be a graphics issue, so I updated my drivers. I also figured whatever error was occurring would be logged in the event log, but nothing appears in the log directly before the freeze occurs, which makes me think it might be the hard drive...

My specs:
My OS is Windows 7, Ultimate, with SP 1, 64-bit
My CPU is Intel i7 870 @ 2.93 GHz
I have 16 GBs of RAN
I run two 1 TB HDDs in raid 0. One is a Samsung, the other is a Western Digital.

I'm not super savvy with computers, I just know what I've learned through burning through a bunch. :D  If I missed some spec. you need, let me know!

Why I'm leaning more towards it being the hard drive is because the past few months I've been seeing streams of Disk errors in the event log reading:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk2\DR2.
Like five of those in a row at certain times.

Also, back in March and April I was seeing Ntfs error in the event log:
The file system structure on the disk is corrupt and unusable. Please run the chkdsk utility on the volume \Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy##

I ran a check disk yesterday, but it came up clean

Hi,

Thanks for your reply Louis.

I sloved this issue by downloading multilple device monitoring programs like GPU Temp, CrystalDiskInfo, and MSI Afterburner. I found my Graphics Cards to be running at over 90 degrees, which was the cause of the issue. I used MSI Afterburner to increase the fan speed of my cards to keep them cooler.

Thanks again!

Glad you resolved it, thanks for the feedback.

Happy computing :).
