Hi - this is my first time on this forum, I'm a little bit desperate, so any help or advice anyone can give would be much appreciated. I'm not a computer technician, (though hopefully not completely useless), but please be patient with me :)

I have a DELL with Windows 7 that is having a few issues, mainly running quite slowly, which I think is because of the following (which I'm not sure are related to each other or not):

1. Check Disk is not working

I can only run ChkDsk in read-only mode, in which case it tells me there are LOTS of issues. However, when I schedule one for a restart it counts down until about 2 before it cancels it itself. I have tried to install a Windows Hotfix patch for this but nothing changed. I also ran Windows Startup Repair and I'm still having the same problem.

2. Windows updates keep failing

For the last few days Windows has tried to update the same update and it keeps failing. Every time Windows tries my computer slows down and I have to restart - but every time I try, it fails. I've tried Microsoft Fix it, but nothing changed.

3. Software are doing crazy things

Google Chrome refuses to sign me in. Microsoft Office keeps coming up with error boxes. Adobe reader keeps telling me there's a problem with an exe.file.

I don't know if these problems are related, but they are sure annoying enough.

I have run my usual anti-virus software (AVG and Malwarebytes) and it doesn't appear to be a virus - but please correct me if this assumption is wrong

Any ideas on what I could do to try and fix these issues?

Thanks heaps for any insight!!
