First thanks for helping a newbie.  I took my family computer off to college and it was almost too slow to use.  I started trying to clean it up.  I ran combofix and malbytes malware both in safemode. Combofix removed a couple of things, and everytime I run malwarebytes it comes up with the same 34 errors. "pup.conduit.a" if I recall correctly.  I then ran hitman something.  All advice I have been taking from other's posts.  I am now making my own because I have plateaued.  The computer is now Usable but still takes so long to bootup and open programs.  Once it gets going it is now "ok" but even with no user programs running other than my antivirus my physical ram memory stays above 80.  It doesn't matter what I close or disable.  Im using AVG for my av. I put my pc in the windows performance mode or whatever that takes away some of the fancy graphics.  I am running in performance mode in my avg pc tune up program.  I disabled everything I could.   No change. I deleted all programs that are unnecessary and defragded multiple times.  I also ran cc cleaner and slim cleaner.  Thank you for you patience and help.

Dell Inspiron 530s

2gb ram

Windows vista

I almost forgot I ran ADwcleaner too

I am doing the minitoolbox now

Ran tdss killer and it picked nothing up

Also if I leave my computer for a couple of hours it automatically shuts off.

Hi morrowky :)

The main issue here is that you are running unecessary software, and software that are known to take a lot of resources to run, like AVG PC TuneUp.

warning.gifPC Booster/Tune-Up Program Warning!
"PC Booster/Tune Up" programs are part of the worst programs you can install on a system. When it comes to messing up your system (Windows), these are as worst as malware. They are completely worthless and useless to use. The worst is that they'll often take action on your system without you knowing, nor authorizing it, which could lead to your system being altered in a way you don't want it to be or even worst, a "broke" system. Every feature they provide, you can either do it natively under Windows, do it via another standalone executable (which is way easier and safer to use) or they aren't providing something you need. Here's a few examples:
  • Cleaning temporary files: TFC (standalone executable), CCleaner (installed), Cleanmgr.exe (in-built);
  • Managing start-up entries: Autoruns (standalone executable), CCleaner (installed), Task Manager and Registry (in-built);
  • Driver Updater: Not needed, all you need is to go on your manufacturer website so you'll be sure to get the right, official, working drivers for your computer or hardware;
  • Registry Cleaner/Defragger: Completely useless and also dangerous;
  • Disk Defragging: Disk Defrag (in-built), O&O Disk Defrag (installed), Defraggler (installed);
  • Powerful uninstaller: Not needed, only needed when you have to make sure a program is completely uninstalled. Revo Uninstaller have a portable version you can use;
  • "Enhanced" Task Manager: Procexp (standalone executable), Process Hacker (portable or installed);
  • "Active security": Any Antivirus and Antimalware can beat that, easily. These programs aren't made to replace Antivirus or Antimalware products and shouldn't be seen as such;
  • Repair Hard Drive issues: Simple chkdsk /r command under Windows (in-built);
Having such program installing on your system will just bloat it down and you have more chances to have issues by using them than without. These products are advertised as a program that can solve all your issues, remove every malware, speed up your computer performance over 100%, etc. The truth is that there's not a single program that can do that. First of all, these programs aren't made to remove virus and malware, leave this in the hands of Antivirus and Antimalware, period. Secondly, there's so many kind of issues under Windows that there's not a single program that can address them all. If you think that BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) issues can be solved by opening a program and clicking on a "Fix" button, then I'm sorry to tell you but, you're wrong. Also, you cannot boost the performance of a hardware over it's hardware capabilities. Of course you can overclock some components, like your CPU, RAM and GPU, but these aren't done via these programs, but via your BIOS interface. I could recommend you a program for every feature these programs advertise, and also tell you exactly in detail why most of them are completely useless, such as Registry cleaner (dangerous to use), and driver updater (dangerous to use, and also completely useless, it'll not improve your system performance). In the end, buying such programs is the exact same as being scammed (because this is what it is, a pure scam) and using one of these programs will result you in having a system less performant than prior to using it.

Relevant articles if you want to read more about PC Boosters/Optimizers and why they are useless:I suggest you to uninstall these programs:
  • Adobe AIR;
  • Adobe Shockwave Player 11.5;
  • AVG PC TuneUp 2015;
  • Google Toolbar for Internet Explorer;
  • Safari;
  • Slim Cleaner;
Start with that and let me know how it goes, alright?

Just my two cents... remember to undo the changes caused by AVG TuneUp before uninstalling it.Alex

Ok, so I deleted those programs.  I had already done the avg tuneup before alex reminded me to change back everything.  I restarted my computer saw CCleaner was started with my computer so I went to change the start up programs from control panel and it says a problem happened and to restart my computer.  The only thing I have opened is chrome with 4 tabs and memory is riding from 70 to 80% which is better.  It hadn't ever dropped below 80% before.  GOing to restart and see if the change pstart up program thing is still messed up.  I rebooted and the first thing I did was start task manager and already my physical ram was already over 50 percent before my av had even loaded up.  Is that normal? Its at 75 percent now with chrome running.  It is still not allowing me to change start up programs

Am I resigned to this kind of performance?  Should I start shopping for ram? assuming that is my bottleneck?

Your problem is this:

Total physical RAM: 2036.45 MB

You only have 2GB of RAM, so of course, if you use modern programs and install a lot of them on that laptop/computer, the RAM usage will skyrocket quickly. Google Chrome is known to be a browser that uses a lot of RAM, mainly because it have a separate process for every extensions, plugins and open tab. If you want to use a web browser that takes less RAM, you should consider using Internet Explorer and/or Mozilla Firefox. But I would use Firefox since you use an outdated version of Internet Explorer which is vulnerable to exploits. If you are to add more RAM to your system, I would add at least another 2GB for a total of 4GB, that should smooth things up a bit. Which processes takes up the most RAM?

I have less than 2GB on all my computers and don't have such performance issues.

I can't believe this is the best my computer runs. It takes over five minutes to start up.  And I can't have more than two programs running at once. Could there still be a virus after all the cleaning software I ran and found nothing?

Right-click on the Taskbar and select Open Task Manager. Make sure to click on Show processes from all users. From there, go under the Processes tab and click once on the Memory usage column. Take a screenshot of the Task Manager and post it here.
