I also have a purchased used computer that the disc I was given is not xppro. I have a gateway running xppro, but the recovery disc won't work. How do I get a recovery disc for my "new" used machine. Its acting stupid, and won't run /scanboot, or any of the /scan programs. It won't system restore either. I finally got it in safe mode, but if I manage to run restore I don't know, and don't have any restore points from before I bought it. If I restore it to one of my points (if it even will) how do I knos its not going go reload whatevers the problem. Probaly should have posted this somewhere, but I truly am an old fart trying to keep Me and Xp running.

What is the make and model of the comptuer? If it has a recovery partition and it is intact it may be possible to do a factory reset.

Edit: Because this is a used comptuer, you do not need any data from it correct?
