Hi brads :)

Do you have access to another computer/laptop on which you could download the Network Controller drivers and transfer them on your laptop? You could also do it on your smartphone if you have one. Otherwise, can you plug in an Ethernet cable in your laptop and see if you can get a working connection?

What is your Toshiba Satellite model number? Also what exact version of Windows 8 are you using, Windows 8 or 8.1, 32 or 64-bits?

Can you download MiniToolBox on your USB, transfer it to the other computer, run it, then give me the log?

3Al62Pm.pngMiniToolBox
  • Download MiniToolBox and move the executable file to your Desktop;
  • Execute MiniToolBox and check the following options:
    • List Installed Programs;
    • List Last 10 Event Viewer Errors;
    • List Devices - Only Problems;
    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size;
      wNeKMCX.png
  • Once this is done, click on Go and wait for the scan to complete;
  • Once the scan is complete, a log will open. Please copy/paste the content of the output log in your next reply;

Good news is that the drivers you are missing aren't critical, and your Wireless drivers are installed. How does the Network icon, in the icon tray looks? Does it have a little red X on it or else? Does it shows available WiFi networks?

Can you take a look around the sides of the laptop, to see if you see a button or a switch that would enable the WiFi? It usually have a symbol of "antenna" on it. Don't just pass your hand around the edges as you'll miss it, take a good look :) If it's not there, the wireless might be enabled via one of the Function (F) key on your keyboard, which should have an antenna icon on it.

Hi,

I am having a similar problem with my HP desktop.  I have an ATT Unite card and as of Monday I have not been able to connect to the internet.  My laptop  also uses the card and it is working fine.

When I go to the Network & Sharing Center and troubleshoot the internet connections I get a message saying that 'problem found: a network cable is not properly plugged in or may be broken'.  I don't have a network cable.

Under Networking & Sharing Center>Change Adapter Settings> the Local Area Connection has a red X.  What does this mean and how can I get my computer to recognize the ATT Unite card again?

Under Device Manager>Network Adapters> only Realtek PCIc GBE Family Controller is showing.

I have not tried the HP Support Center yet to see if I can download something to fix this problem because I don't really know what to look for.

Please help me.

Thank you.

Hi gailk :)

I'll ask you to start your own thread in the appropriate Windows section for your issue, in order to not hijack this one :) From there, members will assist you.

Thank you!
