Hello:
I'm a complete novice, and until recently was running without a firewall, or anti-virus software. I know I have at least one virus...probably more. I ran ad-aware, spybot, and bit defender. Couldn't run panda or housecall (problems with Java, or ActiveX..again, I'm a novice, so I'm not really sure what I'm doing). I also installed zonealarm firewall, but I'm not sure if it is working/active.

I've tried to read, and follow your directions, and now, here is my HijackThis file. Any help would be appreciated.

IESettingsupdate runs at startup, and the performance of this machine is not good.

Welcome aboard.. Lets get started :thumbsup:

While TeaTimer is an excellent tool for the prevention of spyware, it can sometimes prevent HijackThis from fixing certain things.
Please disable TeaTimer for now until you are clean. TeaTimer can be re-activated once your HijackThis log is clean.
  • Open Spybot Search & Destroy.
  • In the Mode menu click "Advanced mode" if not already selected.
  • Choose "Yes" at the Warning prompt.
  • Expand the "Tools" menu.
  • Click "Resident".
  • Uncheck the "Resident "TeaTimer" (Protection of overall system settings) active." box.
  • In the File menu click "Exit" to exit Spybot Search & Destroy.
==

Firstly, please download and run this uninstaller:

http://www.outerinfo.com/OiUninstaller.exe

==

Next...

Please download Qoofix © RubbeR DuckY:
  • Unzip all files to a convenient location such as C:\Qoofix.
  • Go to the folder you unzipped all files and double-click Qoofix.exe.
  • Click Begin Removal and wait for the scan to finish.
  • If an infection has been found, select yes to restart your computer.
  • Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the contents of the Qoofix logfile. :flowers:

    Note: If you have problems with the Qoofix logfile, open it manually from its own folder -> C:\Qoofix.

Hi again.. :thumbsup:

Go ahead and delete OiUninstaller.

Please print these instructions out, or write them down, as you can't read them during the fix.

Hello, and thank you again.

I already had ewido installed. I followed your link for manual updates, and tried running manual update, but I'm not sure it worked.

I booted into safe mode, but ewido gave me an error message "Something bad happened", and produced this file, and a .ERR file

I ran BFU as instructed.
I booted into normal mode, and still got the IEsettingsupdate pop up.

Ok. RD has updated his Qoofix - so lets run it again. If you have the old Qoofix still on the machine, please delete it. :thumbsup:

==

First, please run a scan with HijackThis and check the following objects for removal:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm
R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {47043F81-F336-F6ED-4AB9-A0BFAE80D4C6} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\oaavrbn.dll (file missing)

Now close ALL other open windows except for HijackThis and hit FIX CHECKED. Exit HijackThis.

==

Please copy the following text in the quotebox below to a blank Notepad file. Make sure the filetype is set to "All Files" and save it as Removeservice.bat. to your desktop.

Finally:

Please download Qoofix © RubbeR DuckY:
  • Unzip all files to a convenient location such as C:\Qoofix.
  • Go to the folder you unzipped all files and double-click Qoofix.exe.
  • Click Begin Removal and wait for the scan to finish.
  • If an infection has been found, select yes to restart your computer.
  • Post back with a fresh HijackThis log and the contents of the Qoofix logfile. :flowers:

    Note: If you have problems with the Qoofix logfile, open it manually from its own folder -> C:\Qoofix.

But it does look better.. :thumbsup:

Sorry, my bad with the batch file, didn't remember Win2K doesn't have SC.. Anyway, lets continue.

---

Please run a scan with HijackThis and check the following objects for removal:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ntdll.dll] C:\WINDOWS\System32\veyblt.exe reg_run
O16 - DPF: {A1426AC5-8CE5-4A00-B71E-011D35709AC6} - http://advnt01.com/dialer/int_ver34.CAB
O23 - Service: winconfig.exe - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\win32dll.exe (file missing)

Now close ALL other open windows except for HijackThis and hit FIX CHECKED. Exit HijackThis.

---

Lets delete the bad service:
  • Open HiJackThis
  • Click on the configure button on the bottom right
  • Click on the tab "Misc Tools"
  • Click on "Delete an NT service"
  • Copy and paste this in: winconfig.exe
  • Click "ok", then reboot
---

Download GMER:
  • Unzip it and double-click GMER.exe
  • Click the rootkit-tab and click scan.
  • Once done, click Copy.
  • This will copy the results to clipboard.
  • Paste the results in your next reply. :flowers:

Hello. Yes, it is better. I must tell you that after running the first HJT, and FIX CHECKED, I got a message that said a reboot was needed, so I went ahead with a reboot at that point. I hope that was ok. I also did the reboot after winconfig.exe.

I am not getting the iesettingsupdate any longer (THANKS!!), but pop-ups continue, even when I am not in IE.

Please run a scan with HijackThis and check the following object for removal:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\System32\netdde.dll

Close ALL other open windows except for HijackThis and hit FIX CHECKED. Exit HijackThis and reboot.

==

Navigate to and delete the following file if present:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\netdde.dll

==

Clean out temporary files:
  • Click Start -> Run and type in: cleanmgr
  • Click "Ok".
  • Let it scan your system.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only ones checked.
  • Click "OK" to remove them.
  • Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion.
==

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan
  • Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
  • A new window will open...click the Check Now button
  • Enter your Country
  • Enter your State/Province
  • Enter your e-mail address and click send
  • Select either Home User or Company
  • Click the big Scan Now button
  • If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
  • It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
  • When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
  • When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report. :thumbsup:

Hello again.
I had some difficulties this time.

First, HJT produced an error, after I selected the object, and hit FIX CHECKED. Here is the error
An unexpected error has occurred at procedure: modBackup_MakeBackup(sItem=O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\WINDOWS\System32\netdde.dll)
Error #5 - Invalid procedure call or argument

Please email me at merijn@spywareinfo.com, reporting the following:
* What you were trying to fix when the error occurred, if applicable
* How you can reproduce the error
* A complete HijackThis scan log, if possible

Windows version: Windows NT 5.00.2195
MSIE version: 6.0.2800.1106
HijackThis version: 1.99.1

This message has been copied to your clipboard.
Click OK to continue the rest of the scan.

Then, I did not find netdde.dll.....however there is a file called NETDDE.EXE

I completed the CLEANMGR.

I have problems running Panda. After the download is complete, and I select My Computer, nothing happens. At the bottom, I get "Error on page", and when I selected details, I get a message with the following:

Char 10
Error Object doesn't support this property or method
Code 0
URL:www.pandasoftware......

Are you still having problems? Popups? Panda scan isn't totally necessary.
