My girlfriend's computer is having troubles with the internet.  We tried pinging google.com and 74.125.224.224, and neither worked.  We are not quite sure what to do.

Hi appleo :)

If you think that a thread is misplaced, you can always use the Report button at the bottom of a post to report it and write it down there. If a Moderator judges that the thread is indeed posted in the wrong section, it'll be moved in a more appropriate one.

How are you connected to the Internet?

Example:  wifi to router, router to modem.

What is the make and model of this computer?

Have you tried using a Ethernet cable?  This would be worth doing to determine if this computer is capable of getting online at all.

She doesn't have a spare ethernet cable.  I will have the laptop over the weekend though, so I will be able to check the ethernet.
