I bought a new Lenovo G510 from Amazon December 2014 and I am being told that my Win 8.1 license expires 17 May and I must activate it soon.  I've found the current product key but it's not being accepted.  Can someone please explain what I have to do to put things right.       Thanks

I had a Lenovo T420 recently that would not activate online - I bought it as activated but it wasn't - the licence key should be under the battery.

Had to ring Microsoft and give them the product ID which is in control panel/system.

I've found the phone line to be very good - had an OEM Dell with a dead hard drive and no copy of Windows - used a copy of mine and the Dell COA which Microsoft activated.

Sorry to say but you have a counterfeit version of Windows, the method of activation used here is KMS activation. this is only available to large organizations.

Do you have the original Windows 8 discs?

Does the original key contain DWX8H-6XWKK ? If it does this is a KMS specific key.

Hi and thanks for the interest.  I have spoken to Microsoft support and they have confirmed the key is a volume licence issued to manufactures who can use it with their products and I must contact US support for more information.  I have spoken to Lenovo and they have confirmed the key is legitimate and will not expire on the 17th May as I am being warned in my PC Settings.  They suspect some form of malware and suggested that if it cannot be removed by the usual methods I do a complete recovery which I intend to do before the deadline just in case.

I dont think Lenovo understand the issue.

Follow the below guide, did you get a key appearing? Please dont post the key, I am just wondering if something comes up:

Hi and thanks again.  I faithfully followed the instructions in the link using the admin prompt and nothing appeared.  I tried posting a screenshot but it's over the limit.  I did get a key when I used Belarc Advisor and this was the key I mentioned to Microsoft and Lenovo who confirmed it was OK and is shown as being activated in my PC Settings.  Should I try a complete recovery now as suggested by Lenovo?  I am worried I won't be able to do anything after the 17th when the license is supposed to run out.

Yes those are the last two groups.  Sorry I should have told you that earlier  Can you suggest what I should say to Lenovo, other than threaten them with the police for selling fake goods?  Thanks for all your help...it's much appreciated.

Hi and I'm sorry for this but I honestly don't know whats happening with my replies...I just get started and it posts.

Anyway I'll try again.

I Googled my dodgy key and landed up here http://www.eightforums.com/windows-updates-activation/53637-problem-windows-8-1-activation-3.html

I followed the Product Link and took Option 5. Ran the Showkey VBS file and got a currently loaded and an embedded Key.   I deleted all files connected with KMSpico.

Then loaded the embedded file and Bingo I'm activated again.   Hallelujah!!

Thanks to Go the power for pointing me in the right direction.
