In response to Debian switching from sysvinit the Veteran Unix Admins announced they would be forking Debian into a new distro called Devuan which would avoid systemd. Their plan was that when Debian 8 came out, they would release Devuan 1 so that Debian 7 users could upgrade directly to Devuan. I've been looking in the project every now and again and with Debian 8 out so I decided to take a look at devuan.org to see if Devuan 1 is too. Their site is unchanged, but according to their twitter account, Devuan has been abandoned. I'm not suprised really given it was a massive undertaking.

after 7 months of work in the direction of forking Debian we have decided that not, we will not do that. Today we give up and we accept to be assimilated.

I'm surprised Linux news sites haven't posted about this yet, or at least nothing turning up on Google.

maybe they had a change of mind when Debian  decided to keep sysvinit and let it run alongside systemd..... in a way to appease the detractrers

Fedora supposedly abandoned systemd also. Confuses me no end about where to go for updates.  Am thinking of instead installing Fedora 21 externally.

So is there some really good reason why no systemd?  I can barely even spell it.  :lmao:

I've asked myself the same question loads of times, but I don't understand enough on the subject of inits to get what the big deal is.
