Appears to me that you have a security suite installed...but it's not working properly.

The update you posted and the resulting error...seem to be related to dysfunctional firewalls, from what I read.

My question would be...does that indicate malware or just a questionable product install?

I would (first) try solving it by uninstalling the current suite...and then reinstalling either the same suite or Microsoft Security Essentials and use the Windows Firewall.

I tried uninstalling the security suite as you suggested and installed MSE/Windows firewall.  The update in question still failed though.  I also tried the microsoft Mr. Fixit tool without success.

I would run the chkdsk /r command...then follow that with the sfc /scannow command.

Running: Agnitum Client Security Service

You still have the Outpost suite...and MSE and the Windows firewall operative.  Please uninstall the Agnitum application.

Not sure why you think I'm still running the outpost suite.  I mentioned in a prior post I uninstalled it.  I'm just running the MSE and Win firewall.

Take a look at your processes running, as reflected in Speccy.  The item in red in my prior post...is a direct quote.  Agnitum is the developer of Outpost.

If that Snapshot presents outdated data...please post a link to a current Snapshot, please.

The information you refer to was prior to the uninstall.

I'm not knowledgeable enough to evaluate this...but your Seagate Hardware ECC Recovered data is the only item I see which I might be concerned about.  The values seem out of kilter when I compare it to the values on the drives used on this system I'm using.  Generally, the values for that data item reflect 100/100, 120/120, or something analogous for the Current and Worst columns and I have read that (generally) the value is OK as long as the Worst data item is higher than Current (with the exception of temperature data).

You might want to run a hard drive diagnostic and get something more substantial than my perspective.

Thanks for your efforts.  I will run the seatool you recommended.  Know anyone who would have more knowledge?

Re the hard drive...the SeaTools for Windows should be conclusive...the final result will be either pass or fail.

Let's see how that goes.

My hard drive passed both the short and long tests from the seatools program.
