Hi all,

I received my HP notebook with Windows 8.1 for Christmas this past year. So my computer is 4 months old. It ran like lighting out of the box until recently. On March 24th, I was on Yahoo messenger and it froze. I restarted it and it ran fine again for a while, then seemed to slow down and videos were now choppy and slow to load. Any downloads are very slow and web pages load very slowly.

I had some malware issues but have since cleaned them all up. Still, my web pages load slowly. Occasionally, for some reason, the notebook reverts to it's old form and is blazing fast again, but if it is shut off or restarted, it is slow to load again.

My apps seem to load fine and quickly, but my internet is slow. My provider is Charter and my speed is 60 mbs,  But anything with video or animation is very slow.

I am at wits end. Is there any help here before I break down and just take it to a shop? I would appreciate any help I can get.

  Paul

Edit: Realised that no Logs should be put on this forum. I would recommend to wait for another member who is experienced to help.

Hello there and welcome to Bleeping Computer.

Just some real quick questions.

- Are you running Ethernet or Wireless?

- If you are on Wireless, are you able to test the connection on another computer?

- If you are on Ethernet, are you able to get another Ethernet cable to test?

You do not need to take it to the shops, they charge you a bunch for a few minutes work. I would just endure it for a day or two more.

Do  a quick scan with AdwCleaner and check if there is any malicious files that are messing around with your computer

AdwCleaner: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/adwcleaner/

After you reboot your computer and save your Log, please post the log here.

Also, please do a scan with ESET Online Scanner.

Thanks,

I have an awesome script I wrote to fix network issues but not so sure that is the problem.  Have you scanned your computer with Malwarebytes and/ or another good cleaner?

  Hello Laz423,

Thanks for the reply. I am using a wireless router and have 3 other notebooks and a desktop in the house. All others work fine, the speed is up to par on the others. Usually only using 1 or 2 at a time. Just this one lags loading web pages and playing videos (most of the time). This morning, after turning it on, it was super slow, then after 10 minutes or so it sped up to out of the box fast for a while (30 minutes or so) then back to lagging and slow loading. Also, yes, I have used Malwarebytes and it produced no results.

Here is my AdWare log, Eset log will follow.

Somebody elsewhere suggested ccleaner to clean out the cache files on the browsers, nothing else, just the cache files.

CCleaner is really good for a fast fix to a slow computer.  I recommend spending some time with some other cleaners in addition to CCleaner

I have completed the steps, however I did not get a log of my Eset scan, just a result. Nothing detected. My other logs:

Alex,

I reset the browser (Chrome) and it had very little effect. Still having very choppy, slow playing videos and web page loading.

Which version of Google Chrome are you using? x86 or x64?

You might want to switch to the x64 build of Chrome - it's faster and more secure.

To do this, go to the download page for Chrome - but instead of clicking "Download", look under it for a link saying Download Chrome for other platforms. Click it and you will be given the option to download Chrome for x64 systems.

Follow these instructions to export your bookmarks, then uninstall Chrome x86 and reinstall the x64 version.

Let me know how it goes.

Regards,
Alex
