I don't know what this thing is. Windows Update can't find a driver for it.

Do you know what it does even? Does it have a label on it?

It looks like one of the piledriver type for the new hockey game option for a couch shaker.  A bass speaker without a cone, just makes vibrations.

There are no markings. I don't know what it does. I know it's not a mouse (no buttons). It's not heavy enough to be a massager, speaker, vibrator or pocket HDD. The bottom has a small, circular, clear piece of plastic about an inch in diameter surrounded by a ring of felt about an inch wide.

Any other ideas?

When the device is attached is there a yellow exclamation mark in Device Manager. If there is right click the device, select properties and under the details tab select hardware IDs in the dropdown box. Copy and post the first line.

People have different interests. Video, photography, staging to name a few... so many things where light is important.

Anything that can, will be measured by interested people. I saw people drawing graphs of frequencies and spectrums on that AVS forum site. They all knew exactly what they were talking about and it was all totally alien to me....
