I am unable to install any kind of font onto my Windows XP desktop via the drag n drop method. when I highlight a bunch of ttf files, and try to drop them into control panel/fonts, my mouse pointer becomes a "no" symbol. there are 38 fonts I'm trying to install

a search on the web didn't bring up anything like this issue at all

Please help, thanks. I need these fonts

Try the following. Put all your 38 fonts in a folder on your desktop. Go to Control Panel and open Fonts. In the menu bar select File > Install fonts. Browse to the font folder on the desktop and double click it. You should see the fonts listed. Press Select All then Okay.

There are 2 ways in which this can be accomplished. The first is a simple one. Just copy the font to the Font Directory located at C:\Windows\Fonts which will install it for the system to use.

Try this guide i found, i checked it. How to Install Fonts in Windows Xp/7/8 and 8.1
