I am trying to clean up a Dell Latidude D630 Laptop for a friend. Apparently it originally came with Windows Vista, there is a sticker on it with a Vista Product Key. However, the laptop is now running Win7 and among other things it has Office 2007 installed. There is enough flakiness and uncertainty in this laptop's history that i'd like to do a clean install of Win7 and Office 2007

However, the Belarc Advisor report for this laptop does not give me a full Windows Product Key, it only shows:

"Microsoft - Windows 7 Enterprise (x64) 55041-011-1428866-86264 (Key: ends with XXXXX)f"  , and it tells me that "the full key is not stored on this computer, but the portion shown makes it unique" or some such similiar verbiage.

It does give me the complete Ms Office key. I know very, very little about installing Ms Office, but I imagine I could get it reinstalled with the product key and ID that I have

Of course, I have none of the Dell CDs that presumably came with this laptop when it was new. I *do* have a win7 CD that came with my own Dell Latitude E620, and I'd hoped to use it, but I doubt I can do that without a complete product key for the D630.

Is there any way to get Dell or Microsoft to fill in the rest of the missing key? Is it possible to (free or cheaply) upgrade from windows Vista to Win7 using the Vista Key that I have?

In the meantime, I find that I have to uninstall AVG Free AntiVirus in order to run Windows Update, it looks like it hasn't been done in two years, but I'd still like to reinstall.

Any help/advice would be appreciated, thanks.

speccy runs and displays interesting info, but I don't see any product keys anyplace. I think I expanded everything in the "OS" section, and everything else looks like hardware.

Only two types of keys will work with Windows 7 Enterprise a KMS or a MAK. Windows 7 enterprise is only available to large organizations along with MAK/KMS activation. You wont be able to get the key, unless your friend belongs to a large organization (25+ computers) then he is running a counterfeit version of windows. If he does belong to an organization he will need to contact the local IT department for the MAK key.

FWIW:  Speccy does display keys...but it won't do so in Snapshot mode.  You have to just look at the base report which is intended only for system users...while the Snapshot is created (exduding all keys) with the intent of providing system data without compromising user licenses/keys.

Well, since Belarc and the "Genuine Advantage" output both show only the partial key, I don't hold out a whole lot of hope for speccy saying anything more. But to tell you the truth I don't see how to run speccy in any mode *but* this "snapshot mode". I'm running it from an admin acct, I ran it as administrator from the start menu, and it still gives me the snapshot output. I don't see anything in the "file", "view", or "option" drop-downs to do anything different, and saving the snapshot as a .txt file does not add any Product Keys. Is this "base report" in a file someplace?

BleedingComputer has a link to ProduKey?  It's a hassle to get past the moat alligators [security programs], but it will give complete numbers.

After Speccy finishes scanning click on File.

Choose Save as Text file.

Save the file, default location to save to should be your desktop.

Open the text file.

Scroll down to Operating System section.
The key is listed next to Serial Number.

Operating System

I wish I had this, but the only occurrences of the word "Serial" in my output give numebrs for the two Ram sticks, the HD, and the two partitions. In the area corresponding to the above I have:

*Sigh*, even the mighty "Produkey" says: "Product key not found.".  :)

I think that there are no clean installs in this laptop's future, unless it's Linux.

At least Windows Updates are working now, and coexisting with an AV software (panda).

The closest thing I see to a Windows Product Key are the lines:

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Windows Product Key: *****-*****-*****-*****-4K8B2
Windows Product Key Hash: 8kbUvH2vdpwAxw2jMrvOT+qIIb4=

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the genuine advantage output above.

Thanks everyone for your input into this.I learned a great deal, and I think that my friend can make use of Win7 and Office 2007 for quite some time.

Run the Advanced Token Manager. Right click > Run as Administrator. Does it list the key?
