One reason compelling me to join was a recent experience attempting to improve the performance of my 5 year-old Toshiba Satellite L505 Laptop. Yes, I know, its ancient and needs to be upgraded.  I recently downloaded Autoruns and proceeded to delete various files and unchecked various services and apps running upon start-up. Now when I power up, while it seems to be running faster, I have nothing but white letters on a black screen upon startup. The names of the my apps appear in text but there is no screen saver background or even Icons pertaining to any of the applications on screen.

Any suggestions?

:welcome:  to the BC forums!

About your old PC, you could try defragmenting the disk and using a disk cleaner like CCleaner or Bleachbit, for starters.
