Since upgrading to Windows 8, I've noticed that updates almost always fail. I've tried running the update troubleshooter and booting in a clean state. Booting into a clean state has worked for some updates, but not others. What's preventing Windows from updating and how do I fix it?

Please do the following.

Press the Windows key windowskey_zps092d5c75.png and the X key, in the menu that opens click or tap on Command Prompt (Admin).  This will open the Elevated Command prompt.

Copy and paste the command below, then press Enter.

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

It's been stuck on 20% for a while now.

Update: Operation completed successfully. Should I try to update now?
