Computer Temporarily Freezing And Jerky

My laptop computer has started to freeze up a lot and or run very very slow. most of the time it will freeze for a couple of seconds then work.on a few occasions it will freeze on the initial boot-up screen. i have run de-frag and virus check both. need help very bad

Could we have some system specs? What processor, how much RAM? Might be you have too much running in the background on too little memory. Of course, it might be that you have malware using up space, too.

Intel Celleron 1.40 Ghz 504 mb RAM
Only have 13 Gb of 58 total used
