Hey fellow bleepers, i have been running into this issue where every like 10 hours my videocard stops sending signal to my monitor for a second and then everything goes back to normal, this isn't usually a problem since it's just a second but today i was playing starcraft 2 and all of the sudden the ground textures went black and the screen went black right after.

The weird thing is that something inside my case went into hairdryer mode, i have never heard my computer go that loud, not even during stress tests, this is the part that scares me, naturally i powered off the PC via the main button and it settled down, turned it back on and everything was back to normal, i'm baffled by the speed a fan must have picked up in order to make that mutch noise.

I'm running Windows 7 in a GTX 660, an i7 3770K 3.9 boost, 8 gb of ram and a 7400 rpm hdd

Hello,

Please try check your card temperature when this happens, usually the nvidia UI will have a temperature on the health monitor... also updating your drivers may help...

IF all goes black , and you try boot again, try checking this in bios...

Have you tested your harddrive, if the drive cannot load the textures because of a faulty sector that might also be the case, and may prevent any headscratching if that is the case... ((although the black screen does state that this may be the card itself... ))

hope i could help!

Can't check card temp when screen goes black, since it went black, it happened only once but it scared me.

Drivers are up to date.

I have tested my hard drive multiple times, most data i can get about its state is that it's old but working as it should.

Have you went and tried getting into taskmgr when it was black...?

I indeed surely doubt a HDD failure

do you have a secondary computer at hand where you can test this card in...?

Tried a different game?

I didn't try to CTRL ALT DEL out when it happened, it only happened once, so no backing, have no other computer capable of handling this GPU, and it never went into hairdryer mode until today, as i said it didn't bother me when it lost signal for half a sec and came back afterwards.

It's just weird, no fan should had gone into berserker mode unless temps where sky high, and if they where they would had rocketed back on to super high speeds when i turned the PC on again, but they didn't, perhaps it was the HDD since it's the loudest part of my pc when on stress but i don't see why it would just go mad like that.
