I noticed today that the Microsoft Homegroup icon suddenly appeared on my desktop, I opened it up and apparently it thaught I was part of a homegroup, I immediately removed myself from the 'Group' and checked my security settings and disabled anything homegroup related.  My question is, did a Virus do this? I just completed a Norton360 scan and it detected and removed a Heuristic Virus, which after googling I found that it means that it didn't know what the virus was but considered it a threat?

What is the danger that someone has got into and viewed my files?  I also did a Search and Destroy scan and it only found the usual low-grade threats.  Btw the Heuristic find might be completely unrelated to the Homegroup icon appearing on my desktop, I checked the file and it thaught the Suvarium (Game) online update was a Trojan Virus.. go figure?

Thanks!

Hello, and Welcome

Does the icon go away when you refresh the desktop by pressing F5. If not, it can be removed using a registry fix outlined here.

Thanks for replying !   The icon went away when I removed myself from the 'group' that I was apprently in, I have no idea why it suddenly appeared at all though, I have never used Homegroup and no no-one who does.   At any rate I set everything in its options to Off and not visible so we will see what happens!
