Hi there and welcome to Bleeping Computer !
As you may have noticed already, the forums are very busy at the moment and i have noticed your log has gone unanswered so far!
We look at the oldest logs first, and we were wondering that if you still need help, please start by posting a new HijackThis log in this topic and i will then be able to take a look!

Thanks very much
David

Thanks so much for your help - After posting initially I did everything suggested including spyblaster, adaware and my Norton Antivirus in safe mode and got rid of some stuff - I still am getting a downloader virus whenever I run Norton. Here's the log....

Hey emaj61!

Click on start, then control panel, and then double-click on add/remove programs. From within add/remove program uninstall the following if they exist by double-clicking on the following entries:

Logitech Desktop Messenger

*Now start a new scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items (if present):

O16 - DPF: {56336BCB-3D8A-11D6-A00B-0050DA18DE71} - http://software-dl.real.com/09fc9215c6e4b6...ip/RdxIE601.cab

* Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed and click on "Fix Checked" and exit HijackThis when finished.

As with all malware like this, it never comes alone and there are probably infected files left on your computer. Perform an onlinescan with panda: (please use this scanner instead of any other scanner!)
Panda Online
- Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
- A new window will open...click the Check Now button
- Enter your Country
- Enter your State/Province
- Enter your e-mail address and click send
- Select either Home User or Company
- Click the big Scan Now button
- If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
- It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
- When download is complete, click on Local Disks to start the scan
- When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location.
Post the contents of the Panda scan report in your next reply by using Add Reply.
David

p.s. Can you tell me the filepath of where Norton is finding this trojan please.

Heya emaj61,

* Open Norton AntiVirus by double clicking the 'Shield' icon located in the right hand bottom corner of your computer screen.
Double click the 'View' folder. It is located on the left side of the Norton AntiVirus window. This will expand the folder and display the contents.
Click on the 'Quarantine' icon. The right side of the Norton AntiVirus window will now list the contents of your quarantine folder.
Select the item you wish to remove and click on RED 'X' icon to delete it.
This will open the 'Take Action' window. Click the 'Start Delete' button to remove the infected file from your computer.
Repeat for any other quarantined files you want to remove.
When you are done removing files, click the 'Exit' button in the bottom left hand corner of the Norton AntiVirus window.

* Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
  • Close all instances of Outlook Express and Internet Explorer
  • Go to Control Panel > Internet Options > General tab
  • Click the "Delete Cookies" button
  • Next to it, Click the "Delete Files" button
  • When prompted, place a check in: "Delete all offline content", click OK
* Clean your Cache and Cookies in Firefox (In case you also have Firefox installed):
  • Go to Tools > Options.
  • Click Privacy in the menu on the left side of the Options window.
  • Click the Clear button located to the right of each option (History, Cookies, Cache).
  • Click OK to close the Options window
Alternatively, you can clear all information stored while browsing by clicking Clear All.
A confirmation dialog box will be shown before clearing the information.
* Clean other Temporary files + Recycle bin
  • Go to start > run and type: cleanmgr and click ok.
  • Let it scan your system for files to remove.
  • Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
  • Press OK to remove them.
*Now start a new scan with HJT and place a checkmark next to each of the following items (if present):

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

* Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed and click on "Fix Checked" and exit HijackThis when finished.

Please reboot and post back with a new Hijackthis log,
and let me know how the computer is running.

Hey emaj61,

What sort of internet connection are you using? Is this with internet explorer or with another browser? What sort of pages need to be refreshed? You can configure your browser so it won't display graphics, animations, sound, video or other multimedia content.
How to Turn Off Sounds, Pictures or Video on Web Pages:

1. Click Start on your desktop.
2. Go to Settings.
3. Click Control Panel.
4. Double-click on Internet Options.
5. Select the Advanced tab.
6. Scroll down to Multimedia.
7. Deselect the check marks in the boxes next to Play Sounds, Play Videos and Show Pictures.
8. Click OK.

You can also surf when Internet traffic is low. Heaviest traffic is usually on weekends and evenings. Use your cache effectively. "Cache" refers to storage space where your recently visited Web sites are saved. You may need to re size your cache allotment, or you may need to purge your cache periodically. Look through your browser's menus for items named Cache, Temporary Internet files and so on. You can remove these as follows.

Clean your Cache and Cookies in IE:
You could also upgrade your modem. 56.6 kb/s modems are the fastest telephone modems available. You might like to consult your service provider and they can check if your connection is configured correctly.
Hope this helps,
David
