Is there a simple setting to open to the start menu rather than my desktop without having to press my Windows button? Just wondering. I know this may sound silly, but my PC used to do this when i first set it up. Now it just logs onto the desktop.

Namaste!

Follow the steps here but uncheck the option to Go to the desktop instead of Start when I sign in. It could also be called When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start"

John's instructions are correct.

but my PC used to do this when i first set it up. Now it just logs onto the desktop.

On a side note, it used to be the other way around until Microsoft pushed the Update 1 for Windows 8.1, which changed a few settings for laptops and computers running Windows 8.1 that didn't have a touchscreen or touch monitor. One of them was that by default, if you don't have a touchscreen or touch monitor, you'll boot directly in the Desktop and not the Metro Menu.
