*EDIT* I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this. New to the forum here so if this belongs somewhere else please lmk :)

I've worked on my neighbors laptop a few times before and never had an issue getting it back up to snuff. Now I'm having a heck of a time getting it to stop freezing and slowing down.

Windows 8.1 (x64)

Intel i5 Processor

I've run adwarecleaner, jrt, and installed Ccleaner. I also have Avast Free installed which I run concurrently with Malwarebytes.  There are minimal programs on startup; no malicious installed software.  Windows updates and device drivers are up-to-date.

It will run fine for 5 to 10 minutes and then completely bogs down.  The cursor will actually freeze on the screen.  Proccessor usage hardly goes over 50% if ever and memory usage stays below 40% even after running a while.  Chrome and Firefox both crash often enough even after resetting and reinstalling them.

I'm not sure what else to check/do besides a reinstall of windows but I'm hoping I'm just forgetting something obvious.  I'd rather not reinstall if I can help it.

Could you please provide a Speccy report ?  Speccy is a free download from BC, you can get it here -

And these two images will show you how to get the URL which is all you have to post -

And a MiniToolBox report, another free download from BC !

When you run it you get a box like the one in the picture below, select the entries shown -

It produces a report in Text format. Open the file and copy / paste the contents into your next post. Off the top of my head I would be inclined to think 'heat', but lets have some evidence !

I am going to be away until about the 22nd October. Time on-line will be reduced and my internet access may be limited. PMs may not be replied to as quickly as normal !
