I have been on this site once before for a different reason (popup ads).  This time it is a different one which I encountered tonight for the first time. Safari was updated twice, once on March 17 to version 7.1.4 and second time on April 09th to 7.1.5.  Tonight while video streaming it kept freezing on me every few minutes, the back arrow had to be clicked a few times as though whole Safari or Firefox was not functioning correctly.

I cleaned up the cache/cookies but it still freezes.  Can anyone help with clearing this up so that I can go back to watching videos with out any freezing episodes every few minutes?

Should I update the Flash Player though there is no current update available for my computer?

I still have 1.07TB free out of 1.11TB

Please help.

Thank You,

Hedy

Hello hedyn,

  • Please download EtreCheck on your Desktop
  • Unzip it and start the app
  • If the scan done, click on the button copy report to clipboard
  • Paste the content with the key combination Command-V here in your thread (in Code-Tags if possible)

Hello again Dante12,

I looked at the red prints and updated Flash Player, but video streaming still freezes after every 5 minutes or so.  Below it shows recent updates on this machine, could any of these had corrupted the computer specially the iMovie which shows as incompatible update, though it was prompted by automatic update on apple.

1 Incompatible update IMovie version 10.0.7

Security update 2015-004 version 1.0

Safari version 7.1.5, and version 7.1.4

iTunes version 7.1.5

Thank you for your time and God Bless.

Have you installed McAfee or was the installation included with adobe flash player?  Never install any third-party-software unless you know how to uninstall it.

At first we must uninstall McAfee and we go deeper in a diagnostic test that show all the entries.

Please read the whole message before you doing anything.

At first we need the Terminal.app and TextEdit by the following way:

> In Finder select Go >> Utilities in the menu bar or pressing Command-Shift-U to open it. The Application is in the Folder that you open

> Open the Terminal.app by double-click on it.

Type in the Terminal the command sh and hit Enter

> Open Spotlight whilst hit Command and Space, type TextEdit and hit Enter

> You have know open the Terminal and TextEdit on your Desktop

Important:

- You don't need to type anything. Copy the whole line in the Code-Boxes below,  paste it in the Terminal and hit Enter. Only you need to type in is your password if needed.

- There are five steps in all to get a complete diagnostic log. This are numbered from Step 1 to Step 5.

- Copy the output of every Step in the Terminal and Paste it in TextEdit Step by Step.

- If all steps done, Copy the complete Text that you have in TextEdit and Paste it here in this thread.

- Check if all lines from TextEdit are in your inserted Text here in your Thread.

- If all Ok, can you close TextEdit (without saving) and your Terminal by type Exit and hit Enter.

- Thank You for your patience!

Ok now we make the logs in  the Terminal. Paste the following lines Step by Step into your Terminal and hit Enter. Please follow the Steps above!

Step 1:

kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'

Step 2:

Repeat with this Step

sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'

Step 3:

launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'

Step 4:

ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null

Step 5:

osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null

Remember: You don't need to know what lines doing exactly, Copy the output from every Step by using your Mouse and Paste it below the other lines in TextEdit. If you have any problem with one or some of the lines, paste the content that have done and tell me what is going wrong,

Hi dante12,

I read the whole instruction and followed step by step until I got lost at Open Spotlight whilst hit Command and Space.  Where and how do I open it?n Also the Quote step by step is a bit confusing. Once I figure our the Open spotlight do I copy the whole line(which line, where?) in all 5 steps individually? Again I am getting confused, maybe it is because I have not done this before.  Sorry for the inconvenience and I appreciate your patience.

Thank You,

Hedy

Oh, by the way I was prompted to install McAfee when I was updating Adobe Flash Player previously, though I don't trust and agree to installing third party software, I assumed it was necessary for the update on adobe flash player new version.

I just searched on line for the spotlight, now I need to find out if I can carry out your instruction with out further inquiry.

Thank You,

Hedy

I just notice Kies Agent.  I have a samsung phone and I had some issues to be resolved which ended in having Kies remotely installed on my iMac by samsung outsourced rep.  Could this also have anything to do with the problem I am experiencing?  If so, should Kies also be uninstalled?

Best,

Hedy

You need the Kies Installer to Uninstall the Application. If you have it on your drive start it and choose uninstall. I don't know wich  Version do you have but I've found this here: http://www.samsung.com/us/support/faq/FAQ00059180/81111

Step 1:

At first we must remove McAfee and Adobe Flash Player

1. In Finder hold the key combinations Command-Shift-G or Select in the menu bar Go -> Go to Folder...

2. Insert the following Lines into it . Do this for every Line separately

3. Copy the Line below insert it in the Finders Window by press the keys Command-V and hit Enter.

For example as showed below. Copy the Line /Library/Frameworks , choose the finder menu Go -> Go to Folder... and insert the copied line in the window, hit Enter. Delete the contents

   as showed below.

/Library/Frameworks

Move to Trash AVEngine.framework
Move to Trash ScanBooster.framework
Move to Trash VirusScanPreferences.framework

Continue with the next Line following the step 1. and 2. above

/Library/Internet Plug-Ins

Move to Trash SiteAdvisor.plugin

Next Line

/Library/LaunchAgents

Move to Trash com.mcafee.menulet.plist
Move to Trash com.mcafee.reporter.plist

And the last one

/Library/LaunchDaemons

Move to Trash com.mcafee.ssm.ScanFactory.plist
Move to Trash com.mcafee.ssm.ScanManager.plist
Move to Trash com.mcafee.virusscan.fmpd.plist

Step 2:

Uninstall Flash Player temporarily.

1. Open in Finder the menu Go and choose Utilities.

2. There is an Adobe installer on it. Double-click on it and choose uninstall.

Step 3:

Restart your mac and tell me if any problems has occurred.

Hi Dante12,

I've followed your instruction and removed Kies and McFee.  I have not noticed any problem, it has only been a few minutes, I did steam video to check but only for a minute, but will watch for longer to see if it still freezes since it happened every 5 minutes or so.  Will let you know.  Are there any more steps to rectifying the problem?

With Regards,

Hedy

Hi Dante12,

The freezing problem still continues as it started again while video streaming a couple of minutes ago, afterwards I had to force quite Safari a couple of times, it was freezing and only half the page was opening as I was trying to log in to beeping computer site.  I am not sure what is going on, should I had kept Kies intact? and just uninstalled McAfee?

Thank You,

Hedy

Hello hedyn,

Have you uninstalled Adobe Flash as I described before? Do it first before we went to the next steps. By the way do not

use the Installer that you have on your disk because they is a link on there that download McAfee again. Delete it. Use the

Instructions in Step 5  install the flash Player again.

Step 1:

1. Please download AdwareMedic
2. Open the DMG with double-click and install the program
3. Start it and choose Scan for Adware. If Adware found, that will be moved to the trash

Step 2:

Reset your SMC and NVRAM

This will unload unused drivers and cleared the system drivers cache.
Please read the following carefully, maybe you need to print out this pages:

Step 3:

Boot into Safe Mode
1. Read here how to boot into safe mode, maybe you need to print the site: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
2. Log In and Open the Disk Utility. Go to Finders menu to GO TO and choose Utilities. Start Disk Utility
3. Choose your System drive on the left side and Click on the Button Check disk permissions. If done Click on Repair disk permissions.
4. Close Disk Utilities and Restart the Mac in Normal Mode

Step 4:

Note: Flash Player has many security issues. If you don’t need it don’t install.  Instead use HTML 5 https://www.youtube.com/html5?gl=EN&hl=en
You need to Activate HTML5 separately for Firefox by visiting the Link above.
Google Chrome has it’s own Flash Player engine that used if needed.

1. Install flash Player from this Site: https://get2.adobe.com/en/flashplayer/
2. Please look if any checkbox is activated like McAfee , Lightroom or whatever is on this page. Uncheck it!
3. Download Flashplayer now, open and install it.
4. Try if worked good. Have you still issues with them, click with the right mouse or control-click on the video  with this problem and choose the menu Settings
5. Look for Hardware Acceleration and disable it (if disabled, enable it)
6. In the menu Global Settings you can delete the local caches (Tab Storage) and Browser Caches (Tab Advanced)
6. Try Again

Problems with Flash Player differs, many Users use it without problems it depends on the individual Hard- and Software-Configuration.

Step 5:
Please give me a fresh Log with the Terminal Commands earlier to this thread.

Hi Dante12,

Thank you for the reply.  I am getting a bit overwhelmed and feel uneasy doing step 2. Also, not familiar with using HTML.  I prefer to use flash player as I never had any problem before McFee was installed unwillingly.

I am going to try to delete flash player by dragging to trash (since I could not find the original installer to choose uninstall), then I will reboot and reinstall per your instruction.  Please let me know if it is ok to skip step 2 since I don't feel that I am qualified.

Thank You,

Hedy
