First of all - welcome to BC !

You say Chrome starts in the wrong language, but you don't say which language you would consider correct !  And you give us a choice of three - Flemish, French and American  English.

I  know that the AZERTY keyboard is the de facto French standard - I found this out after I got my e-mail log-in wrong three times in a French internet cafe, then I looked at the keyboard - but if that is the installed keyboard, how is the installed language English ?  Have you tried uninstalling Chrome and re-installing it to see if you get a 'Choose language' option ?

HI chris

Yes Sorry had it in my mind but did not explain it well. I am an Englishman and spend a lot of time in Belgium as my daughter lives here. But Belgium is complicated, part Flemish Dutch, part French, also Small part German, so three different Languages in such a small place. The Keyboard of my Recently aquired local Laptop is AZERTY but I want to USE and read everything in either UK or American English; which has also a different spelling and some keys like backslash are NOT the same in the English QUERTY keyboard layout. I spent a lot of time in the States and it seems Google DO NOT make it easy for us outside of America with respect to keyboard layouts and languages.

I am using VISTA Ultimate also I have installed Windows language packs and done all I can and SO FAR made some progress but often there is a MIXTURE of Dutch and English in sub menus: So I have selected Dutch for the AZERY Keyboard and gone to Google settings and changed the ones I thought relevant to English and it seems to be better but NOT perfect. Google really should address the problem and make it more straightforward. I read about APPDATA being a probem as GOOGLE like many web based systems are Regionalised so when you log in and out this is changed. I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO CHANGE that file even difficult to find in fact.

Any advice welcome

Thanks David

You may find that file here :

Obviously substitute your name between 'Users' and 'AppData'. But try Quietman's suggestions - he is namely for knowing what he is talking about.

As for your keyboard problems, have you tried a USB connected QWERTY keyboard. I do know that there are differences between the UK and USA versions and I accept that it is a little less convenient than merely having a laptop but for about a tenner ?  Alternatively, just kick back and enjoy the beer, I like Belgium !
