I took a chance and checked RKill at startup and the application has been running for over 3 hours and is sitting a 10% complete. How do I kill RKill or remove it from startup? I am very disappointed mostly because my C: drive is just under a 25% used, so what is taking it so long. Very frustrated because this has disabled my laptop completely and I cannot successfully startup my computer.

Hi dawnynsmith :)

If you have any issues, problems or questions about RKill, which was developped by Lawrence Abrams (AKA Grinler, the Founder and Owner of BleepingComputer), you should post them in the Support thread for RKill, at the link below.

RKill - What it does and What it Doesn't - A brief introduction to the program

There you'll be assisted with your issue :)

I did post there, and the last entry on that topic was years ago.

Yes I just noticed. And don't worry, since you bumped the thread with your question, members will take a look inside and experienced users (or even Grinler himself) will answer your question and assist you :)

Is RKill a Virus? I tried going in Safe Mode to bypass Rkill and it didn't do anything. Even on a Hardboot it still returns to 10% complete. I started my computer at 7 am. I pressed the key to kill the process, and I swear my computer laughed at me. I have researched the topic of how long the process should take, and as far as I am concerned Lawrence doesn't even know.

RKill isn't a virus, no. If you downloaded the legitimate RKill executable from BleepingComputer at the link below, it's the official one.

Also, I'm sure the process completion time depends of the computer and system on which it is run. Your best bet is really to wait for a reply of Grinler in the RKill Support thread.

...as far as I am concerned Lawrence doesn't even know.

Rkill should take about 5 minutes to perform its routines.

Should take no longer than 5 minutes.

RKill - What it does and What it Doesn't

If it hangs, freezes or appears to be taking a long time, the recommended step is to reboot into "safe mode" and try running it again.

Since doing that did not help in your case, then you need to report it to Grinler so he can investigate.

I did download from this site. I knew nothing of RKill until I came here.

Ok.

I see you have now reported the problem in the proper topic. Please be patient...Grinler is out of town and may not be able to reply right away.

To avoid confusion, I am closing this topic.

If you have any questions...send me a PM.
