Those same people most likely don't backup the data on their computers either.

Since I run an Android phone, there isn't anything I need to back up. I don't care about settings as I change them all the time anyway. I don't play games so no loss there. Contacts and emails are Google so they are already backed up. What am I missing I need to back up?

Not to mention most Android back up options are quite limited and unwieldy. Can't speak to Apple methods.

With iPhones you can use iCloud to back things up by connecting the phone to iTunes (at least that's what I do - I own an iPhone 3GS).

This. Pretty much every applications on Android that are from Google have an "auto back-up" feature to your Google account, and pretty much everyone using an Android phone sign in their Google account. So there's nothing really to back up. Of course, iOS (iPhone, iPad, etc.) users have iCloud, but it needs to be properly configured/set in order to be used.

I'm not even sure that a single Android phone have enough memory space to store all the canneds of "The Man with the 1001 Canneds"
