MSI X340 Laptop

Windows Vista – Service Pack 2

1.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Solo

Motherboard: MSI International MS-1352 Ver 1.000

CPU Usage spikes as soon as I log into the computer. It’s usually one of two processes:

Lsass.exe 80% - 100%

Or svchost.exe 97-100%

Usually, any time a browser is opened or networks are looked at, one of the above processes takes over the computer.

Essentially the CPU is constantly overloaded and it makes all tasks on the computer aggravatingly slow. It’s really frustrating for anyone to use this computer.

After waiting for about 15 minutes with no open applications, the CPU usage went down to 5-10%. When Google chrome was opened: CPU usage temporarily is 100% on chrome.exe, then 95-100% usage on lsass.exe. This is happening with no active network or internet connection.

That sounds suspicious. Have you checked for malware?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
