I've purchased a used external hvr Hauppauge WinTV-HVR    I'd like to see if it works with my current monitor (Viewsonic) before I would remove the monitor and replace it with a brand new Vizio which is just a tad bigger.  This is to eliminate two large viewing pieces in a small room.   The TV would become my TV and my monitor that way.  I had this on a prior system and loved it.

Now, since this is a used item and I already had a problem with a missing part on delivery, I'd like to see if it works before moving everything and setting it up and then having to move it all back.

So, the question is, can I hook it all up using my current Viewsonic monitor and then if it all works, can I simply replace the monitor on the desk with the Vizio TV and plug that in.  Or, would I have to go through the whole hookup all over again?

Thank you for any help
