I know I have a problem with IBM00003.exe... hopefully that's the only problem. I just need help knowing what to do with my HijackThis log.

I did run Ad-Aware (until it was cleared)... and ran Spybot (but it had a problem deleting 2 of the 9 problems).

Thanks for any help :D

Hello,

Let's deal with that error at startup first. Please make sure you do it exactly as I describe here... the smallest mistake can cause problems!

Go to start > run and type: msconfig
Click the system.ini tab.
Search for next line under [boot]:
shell=explorer.exe ibm00003.exe
Select it and click Edit (on the right)
So now you are able to edit that line.
Now delete the ibm00003.exe part in it.
DON'T delete shell=explorer.exe !!!!
So there should be only shell=explorer.exe in that line.
Then click apply and ok.

If you can't find it there, don't edit anything, but let me know.

When done, reboot.

After reboot,

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

O2 - BHO: Shareaza Web Download Hook - {0EEDB912-C5FA-486F-8334-57288578C627} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\ETOMI\PLUGINS\RAZAWEBHOOK.DLL (file missing)
O8 - Extra context menu item: Download with &Shareaza - res://C:\PROGRAM FILES\ETOMI\PLUGINS\RAZAWEBHOOK.DLL/3000

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.
Make sure your Internet Explorer is closed when you click Fix Checked!

Let me know in your next reply if that fixed the ibm00003.exe error.

Thank you... the message is fixed. Now it boots up like it's in Safe Mode.

Also the error message:

Rundll has caused an error in MMSYSTEM.DLL

If you continue to experience problems, try restarting your computer.

I did try restarting it once and it came back the same.

Here's the new HijackThis log:

Have you been modifying anything else in it? Because as I said before, doing my previous steps not properly can cause problems.

Anyway, look here for the solution how to fix this:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=138835 or here:
http://www.compphix.com/rundllerrors.html
Please make sure you do that properly!!

No, I did everything only as you said. I did find it this morning though... on the general tab of msconfig, it had the Selective Startup checked. So it's good now. Thank you very much!

Ah, ok.... good it's back ok now.

Your hijackthislog looks clean again as well.

Glad I could help. :flowers:

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

* Avoid illegal sites, because that's where most malware is present.
* Don't click on links inside popups.
* Don't click on links in spam messages claiming to offer anti-spyware software; because most of these so called removers ARE spyware.
* Download free software only from sites you know and trust. Because a lot of free software can bundle other software, including spyware.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (Housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Effective July 11, 2006, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me will transition to a non-supported status. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide any incident support options or security updates. Existing support documents, however, will continue to be available through the Microsoft
Support Product Solution Center Web site.
