Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit, 4GB RAM, Q9550 CPU

I ran sfc /scannow as administrator and got this result:

C:\Windows\system32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

I found an article that suggests running this command to spot the errors:

C:\Windows\system32>findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >d:\sfcdetails.txt

I have attached the file but all I see are lines like this:
2015-03-29 20:08:25, Info                  CSI    00000009 [SR] Verifying 100 (0x00000064) components
2015-03-29 20:08:25, Info                  CSI    0000000a [SR] Beginning Verify and Repair transaction
2015-03-29 20:08:26, Info                  CSI    0000000c [SR] Verify complete

The actual log file is 15 MB and 121,000 lines, very hard to try to go through hoping to spot errors,

Any suggestions ?

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic323892.html/page__p__1797792#entry1797792 , taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

What prompted you to run the sfc /scannow command?  What seemed to be wrong with the system?

Louis

I ran it while helping someone, I kept asking them to run scf /scannow and they couldn't - so I tried, then realized I had transposed letters. Nothing seems amiss but the error message appears ominous.

Please post the sfc /scannow  log in your topic, do not use a host website to post this.

If the log is too large to post the whole log, break it up into parts you can post.  We need to see the whole log.

The log file is 15 MB, how many parts would that be ? Compressed, it is 220 - 420 KB (RAR vs ZIP), why can't I add as an attachment ?

Here it is, zipped.

You didn't answer my question...why are you running the sfc /scannow command?  What was wrong that prompted you to think that command would take care of it?

You have some hard drive controller errors...indicating possibly failing drives, IMO.  I would run the respective hard drive manufacturer's diagnostic...on each of those large hard drives...I would also check that the connections to those drives are secure.  Hard drive controller errors are an indicator of problems, IMO.

Hard Drive Installation and Diagnostic Tools - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic28744.html

The diagnostic for each drive will take approx 2 hours each (long diagnostic, not the short one).

Actually I did answer your question in my reply on 30 March 2015 - 04:05 PM - "I ran it while helping someone, I kept asking them to run scf /scannow and they couldn't - so I tried, then realized I had transposed letters. Nothing seems amiss but the error message appears ominous."

HARDDISK5 is a Seagate 3TB - i'll run tests and let you know. It is mapped to Drive H: and has no system files on it at all, in fact it is pretty new and has no files at all on it.

Edit:This is interesting - I had WD Data Lifeguard installed and it identified the seagate as HARDDISK5. Seatools offers no such ID. I then ran software I created to map physical drives to drive letters and it identified PHYSICALDRIVE5 as my external WD MyBook. I guess I will test both.

The CBS log is not showing anything of concern. Are you still getting the same message when running SFC /SCANNOW now? The most recent SFC scan in the log is from ~9 days ago, if you run SFC again and get the same error please upload a new CBS log (the full log, not sfcdetails).

This error is rather concerning:
Error: (12/24/2014 06:37:39 PM) (Source: VSS) (User: )
Description: Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error DeviceIoControl(\\?\Volume{f9fe62a7-93ce-4212-aee2-3cf6406725d0} - 00000110,0x0053c008,005D9F90,0,005DAF98,4096,[0]). hr = 0x80070571, The disk structure is corrupted and unreadable.
.
  • Click on the Start Start%20Orb.jpg button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    chkdsk /f

  • Reboot
  • Download ListChkdskResult.exe (by SleepyDude) from Here
  • Double click on it to run it. It will take a few seconds to scan, then it will open a Notepad window with the log. Copy and paste the contents of this into your next post please!

The Seagate Drive passed with no errors using SeaTools. However, the WD MyBook test finally ended this AM after 18+ hours "Too many bad Sectors", so I am pretty sure it's what is causing the log entries. I have requested an RMA, I am copying all of it to the Seagate. SCF /SCANNOW still reports the same thing.

SFC reports the same thing

C:\Windows\system32>SFC /SCANNOW
Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.
Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.
Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs\CBS\CBS.log. For example C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

scandsk /f gives me this:
C:\Windows\system32>chkdsk /f
The type of the file system is NTFS.
Cannot lock current drive.

Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another
process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be
checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)

You asked me to type the following commands (plural) but there was only one command given.

New CBS.log zipped is 150KB, system says too big, maximum is 35.14 KB

EDIT - I deleted my other attachments so here is latest CBS.log
