Can someone provide basic instructions on how to add a picture from the internet to serve as my avatar? Where would I find some non-copyrighted, correctly resolutioned pics?

First of all, from the forum rules -

Only one image per signature. Images in signatures must also be no larger than 500 pixels wide X 90 pixels high. If you have more than one image you will be requested to remove one. If this is not done in a timely manner the staff has the right to modify your signature to abide by these rules.

So that is the maximum size.  Then go to your 'Profile' which you you will find in the drop down box underneath your username at the top right of the forum and you will see a box 'Change my photo'.

if you click on this you will get a dialogue box which will enable you to add a photo either from file - on your computer - or via URL if it is on the web. And that should be 'job done'.

As for an image try Google images if you want one off-line. Or use a photo of your own or even yourself. Or, if your talents lie in that direction, create a design to suit you. Re-sizing images is fairly easy. You can do it in 'Paint' (Windows accessories) or there are free services on-line.

The world is your oyster !

Thanks Chris,

I've started looking at free avatar sites, but haven't found any pics w/ a height 90 or less.  I'm a mac user but I do have a VM running WINXP, so I do have access to Paint if I come across a pic I like that needs to be resized.

Worth noting that the forum software resizes the avatar to fit in the box next to posts.
