movies gone from laptop ??

Hi my son has a laptop with windows 8.1 and he told me all his movies and tv series just disappeared after doing an update ...is this posilble ? i have searched the computor to see if they have been hiden...and right now as i speak i am doing a restore to see if that works ..but any help would be great thank ..and most movies are downloaded from torrents sties ?

 thanks for input ..by the way this is 1 of the best sites out there for getting the job done ...cheers ..my kid is driving me nuts ..i am running out of cold beer lol

My advice is too always back up files in future, this ensures you won't lose them in future. USB flash drives for backup can be bought cheaply, as can cd and dvd rw discs or external hard drives. My other advice is to stay away from such sources of downloads as they have a very high chance of distributing malware. If you can't find the missing files on the pc somewhere i strongly advise against going back to try and get them from the sources they came from, those sources are best avoided at all times.
Back on this site, for a while anyway, been so busy the last year.

My systems:2 laptops, intel i3 processors, windows 8.1 installed on the hard-drive and linux mint 17.3 MATE installed to USB
