I don't know if this is the right place to post this. Let me know if it is in the wrong place.

I have a Dell 5010 Laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. I run Kaspersky AV.

It takes forever to completely boot up. I have seen my hard drive activity grind away for 15 to 20 minutes. Even after time has passed I don’t get fast response when I open a web page.

Task manager shows there are 20 or more services running. I’m not techie enough to know what each of the services are or why I need them to run. There are two processes running, specifically csrss.exe and winlogon.exe, that I know are MS files located in System 32 but Task Manager does not show a user name or description and properties does not show their location. I have read there is some bad stuff out there that use the same file names. I am not sure these are related to my problem but I am concerned.

Periodically I run adwcleaner, ESET, CCleaner and Malwarebytes. My machine does not seem to change much afterwards. So I don’t know if I have a virus, some other malware or just a bunch of crapware.

Any suggestions, advice or steps I should take would be helpful.

Hello wrattephinque, and Welcome -

The Oxford Dictionary defines this as a bale or turn of turtles (I just wanted to know) :)

To your problem, is this mainly at startup or at any operating times ??

Please run the listed programs below and Copy and Paste the logs back here.

Download Screen317 Security Check from Here or Here and save it to your Desktop.

  • Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
  • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
  • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt
  • Please Copy/Paste the contents of that document.

Note 1:: If any security program requests permission to access the Internet, allow it to
Note 2. If you receive UNSUPPORTED OPERATING SYSTEM! ABORTED! message, (or similar) restart computer and Security Check should run

Please download MiniToolBox  to desktop to run it.
 Checkmark the following boxes:

  • List content of Hosts
  • Flush DNS
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory size

Click Go and Copy / Paste the result. (result.txt)

Please post a snapshot with Speccy for more system details -
How to Publish a snapshot with Speccy <<-- Full Directions Here (only Copy / Paste the link)

Empty your temp folders using TFC (Temporary File Cleaner)

  • Please download TFC by Old Timer and save it to your desktop.
  • Alternate download link
  • Save any unsaved work. (TFC will close ALL open programs including your browser!)
  • Double-click on TFC.exe to run it. (If you are using Vista, right-click on the file and choose "Run As Administrator".)
  • Click the Start button to begin the cleaning process and let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • If TFC prompts you to reboot, do so immediately. If not prompted, manually reboot the machine anyway allowing Windows to load normally to ensure a complete clean.

Thank You -

Thank you noknojon. “herd of turtles” was just an attempt to make my frustrations a little humorous.

My computer is slow much of the time, much different than when it was new. For instance often a simple click on something on a web page takes time to load. So it’s not just a boot time issue.

By the way, this morning when I booted up I discovered that some other browser called Binkiland search took over as my default browser. And it wants me to scan for errors which I declined and reset the default to Google Chrome which is what I normally use. Is Binkiland a virus?

Also, I recently dropped Norton AV and installed Kaspersky AV

Thanks for the step-by-step. Here are the results:

Appears to me that you may have possibly damaged/removed files by your use of "registry cleaner/optimizer" apps.  You also reflect a Norton Safe Web  service while not reflecting any install of said program...you have this listed as a scheduled task, I would remove it.  Ditto for regwork.  Ditto for Slim Cleaner Plus.  Ditto for PCDoctor.

Java version is outdated...either update it or uninstall it since it represents a security vulnerability if not current.  See Java Use, Quietman7 - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/516886/problems-with-browsing-this-page-cant-be-displayed/?p=3231066 .

I would first...run the chkdsk /r command.  I would follow that with the sfc /scannow command...then see how the system runs.

Thank you noknojon. “herd of turtles” was just an attempt to make my frustrations a little humorous.

So was my reply (after I looked it up)

hamluis has pointed out most other basic needs as you do have several programs that will cause the computer to slow, then post back and we can review it again.
Please delete at least this version from Programs and Features >> Java 7 Update 71
Java version 32-bit out of Date!

Thank You -

Can you get into system restore and restore the last time your pc was running good?  :radioactive: Warning! restoring to the last point will uninstall anything you recently did

By the way, this morning when I booted up I discovered that some other browser called Binkiland search took over as my default browser. And it wants me to scan for errors which I declined and reset the default to Google Chrome which is what I normally use. Is Binkiland a virus?

I noticed that your question went unanswered.

Binkiland is a browser hijacker. It usually gets installed when it is bundled with other programs you want to install.

With Binkiland being mentioned I have moved your topic to Am I Infected. Your first priority should be getting rid of it, then you can continue with troubleshooting other issues.

With Queen-Evie's note I found this installed program.

Warning, multiple anti-virus scanners have detected possible malware in InstallIQ Updater.
This is most likely the program that finally hit your system and slowed it to a crawl.

Try and first remove this from Programs and Features, then procede with these programs.

Please download RKill by Grinler to your desktop

  • If you have an old version, please delete it first
  • Right click on the new Red icon and select Run as Administrator
  • A black DOS box will appear for a short time and then disappear.
  • This is normal and indicates the tool ran successfully.
  • At most the tool will usually run for about 2 minutes
  • Please Copy and Paste the small log back here.

Do not reboot your computer until you complete the next step.

Now :

  • Download AdwCleaner by Xplode from Here or Here and save to your Desktop.
  • Double-click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
     * Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator.
  • Once installed, Click on the Scan button (only once)
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button only once for accuracy.
  • A report (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for your review.
  • Check the listed removals and see if you are OK with them.
  • If you have questions, post the Report log back here.
  • Next
  • Click on the Clean button only once for accuracy
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK finally to allow AdwCleaner to Restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a log report (AdwCleaner[S0].txt) will open automatically.
  • **Copy and Paste the contents of that log in your next reply.**
  • To restore an item that has been deleted by accident : Open the program again,
  • Go to Tools (top left) > Quarantine Manager > check what you want restored > now click on Restore.

Note: With most Adware / Junkware / PUPs it is strongly recommended to deal with it like a legitimate program and uninstall from Programs and Features or Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. In many cases, using the uninstaller of the adware not only removes the adware more effectively, but it also restores any changed configuration. After uninstallation, then you can run specialized tools like AdwCleaner and JRT to fix any remaining entries they may find.

If you already have a current version installed, Please update it
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

  • Follow the simple directions to install the program to desktop
  • Right click and choose "Run as administrator" to open Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and from the Dashboard please Check for Updates by clicking the Update Now... link
  • Open up Malwarebytes > Settings > Detection and Protection > Enable Scan for rootkit and Under Non Malware Protection set both PUP and PUM to Treat detections as malware.
  • Click on the SCAN button and run a Threat Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware by clicking the Scan Now>> button.
  • If you find malware and tick it to remove it, you may be asked to re-boot the computer to finish cleaning.
  • Once completed please click on the History > Application Logs and find your scan log and open it and then click on the "copy to clipboard" button and post back the results on your next reply.

Run ESET Online Scanner.

  • For Internet Explorer users only, hold down Control  (Ctrl) and click on This Link to open ESET OnlineScan in a new window.
  • Click the ESET Online button.
  • For alternate browsers only: (Microsoft Internet Explorer users can skip these steps)
  • Click on esetsmartinstaller_enu. to download the ESET Smart Installer. Save it to your desktop.
  • Double click on the esetsmartinstaller_enu icon on your desktop.
  • Check "YES, I accept the Terms of Use."
  • Click the Start button.
  • Accept any security warnings from your browser. Temporarily Disable your Antivirus if asked.
  • Under scan settings, check "Scan Archives and Remove Threats"
  • Click Advanced settings and select the following:
    Scan potentially unwanted applications
     Scan for potentially unsafe applications
     Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • ESET will then download updates for itself, install itself, and begin scanning your computer.
  • Please be patient as this will take some time (2 hours is not unusual for a first scan).
  • When the scan completes, click List Threats
  • Click Export, and save the file to your desktop using a unique name, such as ESETScan. Please include the contents of this report in your next reply.
  • Click the Back button.
  • Click the Finish button.

NOTE:Sometimes if ESET finds no infections it will not create a log.

See if this shakes some turtles ........

Thank You -

Can you get into system restore and restore the last time your pc was running good?  :radioactive: Warning! restoring to the last point will uninstall anything you recently did

Sounds like a good idea also , but did anyone notice the following in OP post of >

64 Bit HP CIO Components Installer (Version: 6.2.1 - Hewlett-Packard) Hidden

Acronis True Image Home (HKLM-x32\...\{67ED38A3-4882-448B-B44D-3428AB00D7D5}) (Version: 13.0.7160 - Acronis)

Therefor - why have Acronis installed if you aint gunna use it ? .....as such is the case , restore an Image and away you go again. ???

Just my Thoughts.

Hi from the beach near G/long,

One item like Acronis may not solve all of the problems, so we run a series of checks / removals / tests to see if there are any other problems.

It is just a method that we find will usually work.

Thanks for your input,

Well, good morning all. Thank you for the inputs. Looks like I have a lot of work to do so I will be back when I can.

FYI to those who have discussed Acronis here. I run a very small business on this computer and I back up my data files every night and my system every week or two.

Robert HD, My system backups must have whatever problems I have been having for a long time so doing a restore is unlikely to do anything but reinfect my machine. After I have fixed this fiasco I think I will get them completely cleaned and do new backups.

To anyone, when I bought this computer I set myself up with administrator rights. I do not find adminstrator as a user however and when I try to do anything as an administrator I have to do a workaround to enable it. Is there any way to fix this?
