I am in the process of building a new pc and have a ? about the usb3 header on my MB. the ? is pretty straight forward. if I plug in the front panel usb3 to the usb3 header on my MB, will it work? or will my usb2 devices stop working? I currently have no usb3 devices. however when I do get one, l would like for it to work automatically. without having to install and uninstall  the usb2 adapter that came with the case. I know that usb2 and usb3 is supposed to be reverse compatible. I also know that a lot of builders have problems with this as well. my motherboard is a gigabyte 78lmt-usb3 MB. thanks!

my specs:

OS: windows 7 64

MB: 78lmt-usb3

CPU: FX 6300

MEMORY: 8gb ddr3 1600

HD: SATA 500gb

GPU: r9-280x

PSU: ATX 550w

USB 3.0 is backwards compatible with USB 2.x so you can plug in the device, it just won't be as fast as a usb 3.0 device connected to the USB 3.0 plug.  I am unsure what this adapter is your talking about because you don't want to plug a usb 2.0 case plug into a USB 3.0 Header on the mainboard ..that would be a no no.

it is usb3 to usb2 adapter that came with my new pc case. my case has usb3 ports but came with an adapter/converter incase my MB didn't have a usb3 header.  my MB does have a usb3 header though. sorry I wasn't more clear. that's why I was asking the ?. if I can plug the usb3 front panel connector into the usb3 header on my MB without issues and my usb2 devices still work, that would be the solution I am hoping for. usb3 devices are new to me and I haven't used them before. when I was searching for a new MB I read many posts on forums about folks having issues with their usb3 ports not working with usb2 devices. btw, thank you for responding to my previous post.

Your Usb 2.x devices should work fine on the usb 3.0 cable attatched to the USB 3.0 header.
