want laptop drive on my external to boot to a pc.

If anyone can help me out. I got a dell latop with all my files on it and os and I got a wd 2tb external hard drive. I want to copy my laptop drive to the external and make it bootable for my pc. Is that possible if so how im using windows xp.

The original installation CD/DVD is needed to move that OS to any other machine, after moving the files.  The OS is characterized to the hardware from which it can, the repair part of the OS disk can find and replace the needed drivers and such for the different hardware.
