Hi all. Having spent years being very careful, I have somehow acquired a Stamplive infection that is driving me to distraction.

Neither malwarebytes, nor CCleaner, nor AVG are picking it up. I'm trying Anvi Smart Defender and Hitman Pro this evening.

Chrome is showing no rogue extensions.

Windows is showing no unusual programs.

I don't know much about these things, but am assuming it is a rootkit and that it is fooling these scanners. Weirdly, it seems to have synched across now to my work install of Chrome. This is potentially more serious as administrator rights are handled by remote tech engineers and there are thousands of machines on the network.

In the first instance, though, I want to get it off my home laptop. Will a system restore work and get around registry fiddling?

I assume the companies that pop up all pay to advertise through this wretched software. In which case, I think some naming and shaming might be worthwhile...
