a server 2012 im trying to put logmein on it for remote access but its giving me an error saying something about updating the server,how do i do this? and if i do will that effect the active directory or anything i dont want too mess up anything

Windows Update? Just use Windows Update facility in control panel. Will require a reboot of the server (so will be offline whilst the update installs) but won't affect AD settings.

yeah, if it's just for Windows update, you can install those updates and there will be no any affect with AD.
