I assume you are referring to a prompt similar to the above. This can be an indicator of a serious problem, but most of the time it just means a program didn't close properly. Unless you are getting more that a few of these, it's usually nothing to worry about. If you click "cancel" that's fine; I usually do. If you click "report problem" then an error report will be sent to the developers so they can fix bugs. This report will, obviously, include information about your system.

If you click "cancel" that's fine;

If you do click cancel all the time and it is fine, You may want to turn off apport.

You need to edit /etc/default/apport

Graphical: Open a terminal with (CTRL+ALT+T) and type this:

sudo -i gedit /etc/default/apport

and then push ENTER. You will be asked for your password.

A file editor is now open. Change enabled from "0" to a "1" so it looks like this:
enabled=1

To turn it off make it:
enabled=0

Now save your changes and close the file editor.

Command line:Open a terminal with (CTRL+ALT+T) and type this.

sudo nano /etc/default/apport

A file editor is now open. Change enabled from "0" to a "1" so it looks like this:
enabled=1

To turn it off make it:
enabled=0

You can also use

sudo service apport stop

 to turn it off at boot.

Also Apport is a security risk IMO.

Apport collects potentially sensitive data, such as core dumps, stack traces, and log files. They can contain passwords, credit card numbers, serial numbers, and other private material.

This is mitigated by the fact that it presents you what will be sent to the bug tracker, and that all crash report bugs are private by default, limited to the Ubuntu bug triaging team.

Till some disgruntled employee publishes it on line. Or there is a security breach and its all published online.

Alternatively if you want to find out what's causing the error click "Report Problem" then "details" on the screen after.

I couldn't do this job without my coffee and vape.
