My computer first started getting to the log in screen and freezing. Now it charges (the lights are on while charging) but the computer just won't simply turn on. What is my malfunction?? I need expert help. I had a computer tech savvy friend look at it and even he could't figure out why it wasn't powering on. I've been without this laptop now for almost a year and I need it back. Any help and suggestions are greatly appreciated. I wanted taking it to a repair shop to be my LAST option. Please I'm begging!

Hi, It would be helpful if you posted the brand and model number of the laptop.

When you say "computer just won't simply turn on" do you mean it turns on but you see nothing on the screen or do you actually mean it really won't turn on? When you hit the power button do any lights that might be on the laptop change, start blinking or anything like that?

Its a Asus X401A and it does nothing when the power button is pushed. I know its not the screen because that has been replaced. Any help?

Other than the charging LED are there any other LEDs lighting up, like the hdd LED?

Do you hear or feel the fan running?

Try this.  Unplug the power adapter, remove the battery, press and hold down the power button for thirty or more seconds.  Reinstall the battery and power adapter and try to start the computer.

Do you have all of your important data backed up?

Family and loved ones will always be a priority in my daily life.  You never know when one will leave you.

All lights light up...I will give that a try. I'm open to trying anything right now. Some of my data is saved in online storage but not all. And I'm not sure what has been saved online and what hasn't.

If all lights light up including the HDD try the following. Hold the power button down to start the computer. When you see the lights appear push the power button down again until the computer shuts off. Do this two or three times in sequence. Hopefully the Windows 8 AutoRepair screen will appear.  If it does not work try an external monitor. Your screen may be defective again.

Tried external monitor and still nothing. Tried all the suggestions so far with no luck. Should I just cut my losses and spring for a new laptop?

Do you get any screen when you Tap F2 at boot? If not then if you have important data on the drive, you will need to put it in an enclosure, use a USB adapter or attach internally to another computer.

The screen doesn't come on at all no lights no anything screen wise. Fans run on computer. Other lights on but no screen activity at all.

Then I would have to say this is hardware related. You can try what dc3 posted only this time do not replace the main battery after pushing the power button for 30 seconds. Only attach the power adapter after pressing the power button and try to boot.
