In the demo instruction for GiveMePower system permissions utility, we are to use GMP to go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY and ordinarily hidden entries are now readable and editable.

Here is the quote:

Here is a simple test to show you a bit of what it can do:

-Open "regedit" (With an Admin account) and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SECURITY.
It should be empty.

-Now close "regedit"

-Reopen it with GMP and go to the same key.
You will now see that it has subkeys and you can access them.

This Impossible with Admin account only without modifying permission / taking ownership etc...

I cannot see how to access regedit in GMP; the browse button in the screen allows me access to the normal Explore tree structure, but how to I run regedit through GMP?

Hello there,

I cannot see how to access regedit in GMP; the browse button in the screen allows me access to the normal Explore tree structure, but how to I run regedit through GMP?

What they meant is to access the key via the Browse button in GiveMePower and not actually opening regedit :)

Thanks for the reply.... well, ok, I have tried entering the SAM (WIndows \ System32 \config \SAM and every time I get the message "this file is in use; Enter a new name or close the file that's open in another program". I have no other windows open.

I am interested in this because one of my techniques in removing viruses or persistent adware is to first remove the registry entries (which will cripple it) and then remove the PUP itself. This program could be a great tool if the hacker puts system permissions on it.
