Hello,

I'm considering to buy a new laptop. I will appreciate your suggestions!

My budget for the new computer is: up to $1,000

What are the primary uses for this computer (IE: mail, web browsing, programming, games, etc)?: e-mail, web-browsing, creating documents (Microsoft Words, Excel, Power Points), downloading videos from online sources/DVDs, playing music and movies, skyping.

What software do you intend on using on the computer?: Windows 8.1

Do you play games? If so, what type of games?: Not at all.

Do you tend to have a lot of programs running at the same time, or do you close every program when you are done using it?: I often open a number of web-pages at once while working on Word, Power Point, etc.

Do you store a lot of pictures or music on the computer?: Not really. I have external hard drives to store them.

Will you be overclocking?: Not really. I'm not tech savvy.

Location for online shopping/shipment/prices?: Do you mean where I live? Eastern United States.

How many monitors are you planning to use?: One.

Do you need peripherals? OS?: Windows 8.1

Any particular reason why you are upgrading?:

I have been using this laptop (ASUS K60IJ-RBLX05 NoteBook Intel Pentium dual-core T4300 (2.10GHz) 4GB Memory 320GB HDD Intel GMA 4500M 16.0" Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) for the last 5 years and I wasn't thinking about buying a new one until a week ago or so. I am being helped on a shut-down issue for the last week on this forum, and being help on virus/malware issue (frequent and recurring extreme slowness issue) for the last two weeks on a different forum. But, the situation has not really been improving, and I am getting impatient.

So, I did some basic search for a potential laptop, and here's three laptops I'm interested. Do you think these are decent? Do you have any suggestions for similar laptops that have some of these characteristics, such as Core i7, 15.6 inch screen, at least 8GB RAM, and convertible/touchscreen? I feel like ASUS ones have relatively short battery life (3-5 hours), as compared to Lenovo one (7 hours). I prefer 7 hours, but can deal with 3-5 hours.

--ASUS Flip 2-in-1 Convertible TP500LA-DS71T 15.6-Inch Laptop (Broadwell, Core i7), $799, here

--ASUS Flip 15.6-Inch 2 in 1 Convertible Touchscreen Laptop (Core i7, 1TB HDD, 8GB RAM), $719, here

--Lenovo Flex 2 15.6-Inch Touchscreen Laptop (59418264) Black, $759, here

Many thanks in advance!

The Lenovo has what appears to be better options in a hybrid 8GB SSD/500gb HD and an IPS display.  IMO the Lenovo looks better to me as far as specs.

One thing about the Lenovo you might want to verify that it didn't ship with Superfish installed.

Thank you, Kilroy! If I cannot verify, I will try to remove it myself.
